Ford has been grabbing headlines left and right lately with its EcoBoost twin-turbo V-6 engine, which it touts as a replacement for the traditional V-8. Some have wondered if other automakers would follow suit and Ford's cross-town rival General Motors has done just that with the Jay Leno Camaro Concept.

The Leno Camaro is powered by a prototype twin-turbo version of the 3.6L V-6 engine normally found under the Camaro's hood. That pair of Turbonetics T3 turbochargers is enough to bump the engine's power from a respectable 304 hp to an impressive 425 hp, all while keeping the weight of the engine centered farther back in the chassis than with a V-8 and sending power to the ground through a Tremec 6060 six-speed manual transmission.
Designed with the famed comedian and car collector's input, this Camaro is more than just a slick new engine. Leno and Chevy also got busy reworking the Camaro's body to create meaner look to compliment the power. The result is functional vents on the hood and in the rear quarter panels, new fog lights and brake duct openings flanking a new radiator opening and new grille insert, a new front splitter, new rocker panels, a rear diffuser and a bigger decklid spoiler, all finished with custom rectangular exhaust tips milled from billet aluminum that could eventually find their way on to production Camaros.

Inside, the Camaro has been updated with black leather seats with perforated inserts as well as leather on the armrests and center console lid. All of those pieces as well as the steering wheel and parking brake lever get dark gray accent stitching and the top of the dash has been wrapped in alcantara. Black-painted trim on the instrument panel completes the theme.
GM is being coy about the future of this twin-turbo V-6, but with ever-tightening CAFE and EPA regulations to contend with, it wouldn't surprise us to see GM take Ford's EcoBoost head-on. The fact that the prototype engine makes 75 hp more than the EcoBoost certainly doesn't hurt, either.

Also present on GM's SEMA stand are a trio of Camaro concepts showing of potential new accessories. The most striking is the Camaro Chroma Concept, which features several body modifications that will likely soon become optional accessories on production cars. They include a new grille design that was originally considered for the production grille, a beefier rear spoiler, red-painted Brembo brakes, a Hurst short-throw shifter and off-road use-only shorty headers.

Joining the Chroma on the stand is the Camaro Synergy Concept, which showcases a special green color that will be offered next Spring on 2011 models. Inspired by an original Camaro paint option, Synergy Green will be a limited edition paint color, not a standard option. The Synergy car also features a taller, racier rear spoiler that will be offered as an upgrade in the future.
Completing the trio is the Camaro Dusk concept, one described as "young professional" of the crowd. It features subtle upgrades to the wheels and body and rich leather interior. Unfortunately, the dark metallic blue paint is for the concept only and won't be offered on production Camaros.
