The all-new Passat will be available to customers in the diesel variant in both automatic and manual transmissions, starting at 20.80 lakh ex showroom Delhi. Sales of the all new Passat will start with the Highline and Comfortline which will later be followed by the Trendline.

New Volkswagen Polo Petrol Price @ Rs 6.16 Lakhs Launched by Volkswagen India

After the successful debut of the 1.2 l Polo in India earlier this year, Volkswagen, Europe's largest car manufacturer introduces its powerful 1.6 l Polo variant into the market. This hot hatchback will be available to customers in the highline petrol variant at Rs. 6.16 lakhs, ex showroom New Delhi.

Volkswagen Vento Launched in India with Petrol & Diesel Variants

Volkswagen, Europe's largest car maker unveiled its new sedan the New Volkswagen Vento in New Delhi today.

"For the Volkswagen Group, India is an important strategic growth market, as we continue to grow our volumes and market share in this automotive boom market with our brands Volkswagen, Audi and Skoda", Christian Klingler, Group Board Member for Sales and Marketing commented during the car presentation.

In the first six months of 2010, the Group delivered 16,900 vehicles in India, showing an increase of more than 100 percent and therefore a higher growth than the overall market (+29 per cent).

"This clearly reflects the success story of Volkswagen in India and builds a strong base for our long term goal to achieve 8-10 per cent market share for the Group", Klingler continued.

Volkswagen India to flag-off First Polo Cup India 2010 Starts From 30 May

Volkswagen India will flag-off of the first ever Polo Cup India 2010 with the first race of the season to be held on May 30, 2010 at the Shri Shiv Chhatrapati Sports Complex, Balewadi in Pune, the hometown of Volkswagen India. The final 20 drivers will compete in a series of six races held between May and December 2010.

"Volkswagen India is happy and proud to announce the final 20 aspiring racers who have been short listed for the first-ever Polo Cup India 2010. These final drivers represent the best raw talent the country has to offer. Polo Cup is the boost that the young drivers in India deserve and have been waiting for. We are thrilled as this is the first year of Polo Cup in India and we are really convinced that this first single-make manufacturer-backed series in India will become a new milestone in the success story of Volkswagen India”, expressed Mr. Joerg Mueller, Volkswagen Group Chief Representative India, President and Managing Director, Volkswagen India Private Limited on the occasion of a media briefing today at the race track at Balewadi Sports Complex.

Over 1,100 motor sports enthusiasts from across the country registered to compete in the Polo Cup India 2010 and become a part of Indian motor sport history. After a strict selection process 20 young talents were chosen to form the starting grid in the first race in Pune. The selection process ran from the last week of March to mid of May. The aspiring racers were divided into 2 groups – first-timers and experienced racers, and were put through two rounds of selection. The young racers were narrowed down to 45 drivers through an adrenalin-pumping go-kart selection. The short listed drivers were then placed behind the wheel of the Race Polos, for the second round of selections held in Coimbatore, to earn their place in the final 20 candidates for the races.

The candidates were selected with the support of the expert selection team. The team of selectors consisted of one driver selector & coach from Germany Polo Cup, two Indian driver coaches (experienced drivers from Volkswagen & JK Tyre) and one FMSCI representative, including some of the doyens of Indian motor sports like Akbar Ebrahim, India’s only principle instructor in racing, Farhan Vora, India’s guest F1 steward and Rayomand Banerji, six times National Champion. They personally followed the international structures and conducted the coaching camps to select the best young talent.

The 20 short listed drivers will celebrate their world debut at the Polo Cup India 2010 as part of the JK Tyre-FMSCI Indian National Racing Championship 2010. They will compete in six races across the country, the first in Pune, and then followed by five races on the race courses in Coimbatore and Chennai. Below is the starting line-up:

The first race of the Polo Cup India at the Shri Shiv Chhatrapati Sports Complex at Balewadi in Pune will be the first major four-wheeler racing event to be held in Pune. The 20 short listed drivers, divided into two batches, will ‘burn rubber’ for the first time in a practice session at the circuit on Friday, May 28. Saturday, May 29 will witness a Free Practice session for the drivers followed by the Qualifiers. The fastest laps in the Qualifiers will determine the starting grid for the races to be held on Race Day, May 30.

Spectators will get a chance to see the final line up of the drivers in the drivers’ parade, marking the start of Race Day. This will be followed by two race sessions of 20 laps each. The final podium standings will be announced with a prize distribution the same evening. This weekend format will be followed for all the remaining races of the Polo Cup India 2010.

Like the spark that breathes life into a dormant combustion engine, the Polo Cup India was but a tiny idea conceptualised in October 2008. The journey of this thought into one of the biggest single-make touring car series in India is truly inspiring. The process of Volkswagen’s internal discussions in Germany and prospecting of Indian partners culminated in signing of the Letter of Intent with JK Tyre in October 2009. This is when the hard work truly began. Months of grease and sweat lead to unveiling of the Race Polo in the Delhi Auto Expo 2010. A fierce grill and clean lines form the perfect shell to the 1.6-liter R4 common rail diesel (CRD) engine, which can produce a top speed of 180 km/h.

Volkswagen Electric Cars For India by 2013

Volkswagen just launched Volkswagen Polo small car in India. Its already getting good response from indian buyers and now Volkswagen ready to launch the new electric model from Indian market as well. New Electric Car is currently under final testing stage. Volkswagen will launch its electric car in India by 2013.

Volkswagen CEO Dr. Martin Winterkorn said, "We want to build the electric car that everyone can afford." Volkswagen’s Chief Executive Martin Winterkorn announced in March. First up will be a test fleet of 500 battery-powered Golfs next year. Golfs will be followed in 2012 by a production hybrid version of the next-generation Jetta for the US market. Volkswagen is in talks with Toshiba and Sanyo to source powerful and affordable lithium-ion batteries.

Volkswagen aims to become global leader in electric car market by the year 2018. The electric models of Volkswagen Golf and Jetta will be launched in the US market by 2012.

It will be available in three trim levels including Trendline, Comfortline and Highline and is paired with a 5-speed manual gear box.

Volkswagen Polo: Compact Car Rolled Out in India

Volkswagen, the German auto giat, today rolled out its first Indian made compact car Polo from its plant at Chakan near Pune.

The largest car maker in Europe is aiming to capture 8-10 per cent of the local market over the next four to six years as it rolls out new models and expands its distribution network in the country.

Volkswagen has invested around 580 million euros, or Rs 3,800 crore, in the Chakan facility, Jochem Heizmann, member of the Volkswagen board of management, said and added that this was the largest investment to date by a German company in India.

The Chakan plant has an annual capacity of 1,10,000 units and will be used to manufacture the Skoda Fabia, the Polo hatchback and a sedan will be launched soon in the second half of next year 2010.

With the Polo, Volkswagen is looking to tap the compact car category, which is the most happening segment in the domestic automobile market.

Jochem Heizmann, member of the Volkswagen board of management said that the company would like to achieve a localization target of 80 percent in the next 2 to 3 years. Currently the level of localization is around 50 percent. He added that higher localization will enable them to offer products at a more competitive price.

Ashok Chavan, Maharashtra Chief Minister who was also present at the December 12th function said that the state government would extent all possible support and help to the car makers to achieve its full capacity utilisation at the earliest.

Volkswagen Launches Iconic New Beetle & Touareg SUV Car in India

Volkswagen, Europe's largest car maker today announced the launch of the iconic - New Beetle, and its road dominating sports utility vehicle - The Touareg in India. The New Beetle will be priced at Rs. 20.45 /- Lakhs and the Touareg at Rs. 51.85 /- Lakhs (all prices ex-Showroom Delhi).

The New Beetle is a marvel design of German engineering based on the level of successful series.
