Video: Canadian Police Confiscate 13 Supercars after Youngsters Speed Race

Ocean’s 13 got away with stealing diamonds, earning millions of cash and ruining their adversary’s life. British Columbia’s 13, 12 young men and one woman, all under 21 years old, got away with racing each other, reaching speeds of over 125 mph (200 km/h) on a metro Vancouver highway with a $196 fine each.
The Royal Canadian Mounted Police announced that the cars impounded had a combined value of $2 million. These are the supercars that were temporarily seized:

  • 2007 Ferrari 599
  • 2010 Lamborghini Gallardo
  • 2010 Lamborghini Gallardo
  • 2009 Lamborghini Gallardo
  • 2009 Audi R8
  • 2012 Nissan GT-R
  • 2010 Nissan GT-R
  • 2010 Nissan GT-R
  • 2010 Maserati Turismo
  • 2010 Maserati Turismo
  • 2011 Mercedes SL63
  • 2011 Mercedes SLS
  • 2005 Aston Martin DB9
According to a police report, two drivers would block traffic behind them by running side-by-side clearing the road ahead, while the rest would race each other.
“These drivers seemed to be looking for attention. Well, they definitely got the attention of the police” commented Lower Mainland District Regional Police Service spokeswoman, Cpl. Holly Marks.
However, the 13 offenders, of which only was the registered owner of the vehicle he was driving, will get away just with the ticket after being charged with “driving without reasonable consideration.” That’s because they didn’t actually get caught on the act, but the police acted on reports based from eye witnesses.
According to the Vancouver Star, if the police had been able to charge them with more sever offenses, they could have forfeited their vehicles!
Now, the young drivers will only have to pay the ticket and the costs of towing and storing their cars, which were impounded for seven days.
Guess when you drive a 599 Fiorano, a Gallardo or an SLS AMG, after this punishment you’ll just laugh your way to the impound yard…

How to Overkill a Ferrari 458 Italia

Electric lamps are so passé these days. The way of the future is LEDs or Light-emitting diodes that can be found just about everywhere. Lately, LEDs have taken the automotive industry by storm with carmakers offering them either optionally or standard on most of their models. But it’s not only regular carmakers that have adopted the new lighting technology; so has the tuning industry which discovered a new toy to attract consumers. The results, as you can see from this example of a Ferrari 458 Italia slathered in LEDs, aren’t always graceful. Video follows after the break.

Fastest Cars In The World: Top 10 List 2011-2012

World's Fastest Cars

While most of us can only dream of owning the fastest car in the world, some will do whatever it takes to possess the most powerful speed. So, how fast are the fastest cars in the world? Here are the 10 fastest cars available on the market (production models, as opposed to concept cars) measured by tested top speed (theoretical speeds do not count).

1. Bugatti Veyron: 267 mph, 0-60 in 2.5 secs. Aluminum, Narrow Angle 8 Liter W16 Engine with 1200 hp, base price is $1,700,000. The Super Sport version is $2,400,000. The speed was tested again on July 10, 2010 with the new 2010 Super Sport Version: the Bugatti Veyron once again claims the title of the fastest car in the world at 267 mph.

2. Koenigsegg Agera R: 260 mph, 0-60 in 2.8 secs. 5.0-liter V8 Engine with twin turbo’s, housing 1099 hp. Base price is $1,600,000. If you're into snow sports, the Agera R can be fitted with a Ski Box as well as winter tires, not that I would take one on a ski trip or anything like that. While the Agera R has a massive theoretical top speed, the current tested top speed is 260 mph. Expect this snow car to be the Bugatti's arch enemy for the next 5 years.
3. SSC Ultimate Aero: 257 mph, 0-60 in 2.7 secs. Twin-Turbo V8 Engine with 1183 hp, base price is $654,400. Tested in March 2007 by Guinness World Records, The SSC Ultimate Aero was the fastest car in the world from March 2007 to July 2010. On March 2011, the Koenigsegg Agera R also surpassed it, forcing this American made car to the #3 spot.

4. Saleen S7 Twin-Turbo: 248 mph, 0-60 in 3.2 secs. Twin Turbo All Aluminum V8 Engine with 750 hp, base price is $555,000. Smooth and bad-ass. It will make you want to show it off non-stop.

5. Koenigsegg CCX: 245 mph, 0-60 in 3.2 secs. 90 Degree V8 Engine 806 hp, base price is $545,568. Made in Sweden, it is the older brother of the Agera R, only losing to 4 other supercars in the world.

6. McLaren F1: 240 mph, 0-60 in 3.2 secs. BMW S70/2 60 Degree V12 Engine with 627 hp, base price is $970,000. The fastest car in the 20th century with doors that looks like bat wings. Maybe Batman needs to order one and paint it black 1997 McLaren F1 on the road black
7. Gumpert Apollo: 224 mph, 0-60 in 3.0 secs, 4.2 liter V8 Engine that houses 650 hp. Base price: $450,000. Gumpert claims that the Apollo was designed such that it could drive upside-down in a tunnel with speeds at 190 mph or above. Of course, no one has tested this yet.
8. Noble M600: 223 mph, 0-60 in 3.7 secs. Twin-turbocharged 4.4-liter V8 Engine with 650 hp. Base price is $330,000. The Noble M600 also happens to be a very cool car. Its inconspicuous design sports a slender and contoured body which does not scream out for attention at every second of the day.
We have a tie for 9th and 10th places:
9. Pagani Zonda Cinque Roadster: 217 mph, 0-60 in 3.4 secs. Twin turbocharged AMG V12 engine that produces 678 hp. Base price is $1,850,000. The Pagani Zonda Cinque Roadster is a limited-edition, with five ever produced. It is the quintessential exotic and exclusive supercar.
9. Ferrari Enzo: 217 mph, 0-60 in 3.4 secs. F140 Aluminum V12 Engine with 660 hp, base price is $670,000. Only 399 were ever produced; the price goes up every time someone crashes.Ferrari Enzo doors open front view
9. Jaguar XJ220: 217 mph, 0-60 in 3.8 secs. Twin Turbo V6 Engine with 542 hp, base price was $650,000. Made in 1992, this car still has what it takes to make the list.
Jaguar XJ220
10. Ascari A10: 215 mph, 0-60 in 2.8 secs. 5.0 litre BMW V8 S62 Engine with 625 hp. Base price: $650,000. The company planned to produce 50 of these supercars at its factory in Banbury, England.
10. Pagani Zonda F: 215 mph, 0-60 in 3.5 secs. Mercedes Benz M180 V12 Engine with 650 hp, base price is $667,321. With a V12 motor, this baby can do much better.

Tomorrow's Ferrari is a hybrid sports car wrapped in carbon fiber

Tomorrow's Ferrari is a hybrid sports car wrapped in carbon fiber

Three things come to mind when you think of the brand Ferrari: red, fast and expensive. Maybe, even Italian. Ferrari wrapped up its 2011 World Design Contest that pitted designs students from over 50 schools from around the world to design a "hypercar whose design reflects social changes and technical innovation without sacrificing the brand's performance and iconic appearance."
Three South Korean design students took first place with their Ferrari Eternity concept car — the future of Ferrari. Excuse us, while we wipe the drool off our chins.

Design students Kim Cheong Ju, Ahn Dre and Lee Sahngseok from Hongik University smoked competitors from Turin and London with their hybrid electric sports car.
The Eternity's body is made entirely out of carbon fiber to keep it light and coated in lithium to give power to the car's engine. It runs off a hydrogen fueled engine with a "Fly-Wheel Energy Storage" that cranks miles on electric as a backup. "Maglev System Wheels" were also included to reduce friction and ensure the Eternity drives smoothly.
While the Eternity's design embodies everything Ferrari's are famous for, I personally would have picked third-place winner Henry Cloke and Qi Haitao's Cavallo Bianco car, a hunk of sleek silver with concealed wheels that looks all sci-fi-ish.

Ferrari 458 Italia Grand Am

http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Fnl5zdeY7Bs/TicGh4QxkjI/AAAAAAAEvwM/_KTNbfFiGOw/s1600/Ferrari-1100818.jpg

Ferrari has unveiled its new 458 Italia Grand Am race car which will roll out on July 26 and 27 for a private session at Daytona International Speedway in Florida.

The 458 Grand Am features a 500 horsepower V8 with a 48-mm restrictor plate and rev limiter, rollover bar, new brakes tuned for the car's lack of ABS and traction control and Continental hard-compound racing tires.

Press Release

The 458 Italian Grand Am launched at Fiorano circuit

Maranello, 18 July - the 458 Italia Grand Am was given its track baptism today at the Fiorano circuit. The car has been developed in conjunction with Michelotto Automobili, based on the GT3 version of the V8 Ferrari berlinetta, with the aim of racing in the famous North American series.

The 458 Grand Am is built to match the American regulations and is therefore different to the European car, especially in that it develops 500 horsepower and has less efficient aerodynamics than the GT version. It is also fitted with a 48 mm restrictor and maximum revs are 8000. Significant modifications have been made to the braking system, as the car has neither ABS nor traction control. Other differences to the GT3 include the roll-over bar which gives greater lateral protection to increase safety in a series in which collisions are rather more frequent. The car is fitted with tyres from Continental, the sole supplier to the series, featuring a very hard compound, again to conform with the series regulations. On its shakedown today, it completed a good number of trouble-free laps, 45 to be precise in the hands of Maurizio Mediani and Jaime Melo, as they took turns at the wheel.

2011 Ferrari 458 Challenge reviews

The Ferrari 458 Challenge also comes equipped with the standard 458’s E-Diff electronic differential, marking the first application in a track-only Ferrari.

Ferrari significantly revamped the 458 Challenge’s suspension for race use, including new solid aluminum bushings, stiffer springs, a 30mm lower ride height and single-rate dampers. All of the 458 Challenge’s added performance is kept in check via Ferrari’s F1-Trac traction control system.

Ferrari has officially unveiled the 458 Challenge racing prototype that will compete in the Ferrari Challenge Trofeo Pirelli in the 2011 season. As the fifth Ferrari model to be used by the company in its single-series racing program, the Ferrari 458 Challenge takes the reins from the Ferrari 430 Challenge beginning in the 2011 season.

With the departure of the 430 Challenge and the arrival of its 458 counterpart, it signals a changing of the guard in Ferrari’s one-make racing series, one that should make the 458 Challenge the new face of the Ferrari Challenge.

To ensure that the "Ferrari 458 Challenge" is fit and spry for race competition, significant work was done into cutting the car’s weight.

The Ferrari 458 Challenge is also equipped with the E-Diff electronic differential already employed on the production version of the 458, a first for Ferrari’s track-only cars.
Developed exclusively by Ferrari, the system constantly monitors levels of grip for maximum high-performance road-holding.

Knowing what we know, the Ferrari 430 Challenge sold for £185,000 a pop, which was about $300,000. The Ferrari 458 Challenge will compete in the 2011 Ferrari Challenge Trofeo Pirelli. Over the years since it began in 1993, the Ferrari Challenge has seen a number of production Ferraris turned into race-spec machines, including the Ferrari 348 Challenge (1993–1995), the Ferrari F355 Challenge (1995–2000), the Ferrari 360 Challenge (2000–2006), and most recently, the Ferrari F430 Challenge (2006-2011).

The new Ferrari 458 Challenge, which will flank the F430 Challenge in the Ferrari Challenge Trofeo Pirelli in the 2011 season, is the fifth model used by Ferrari in its one-make championship which, next year, will be extended to include a new Asia-Pacific series
The 458 Challenge is also equipped with the E-Diff electronic differential already employed on the road-going version, a first for Ferrari's track-only cars.

Significant work has also gone into cutting the car's weight. The new Ferrari 458 Challenge also has a specific suspension set-up with solid aluminum bushings, stiffer springs, single-rate dampers, center-nut 19" racing rims, larger dimension Pirelli slicks and a ride height lowered by 30mm all round.

2011 Ferrari California Reviews

2011 Ferrari California
The 2011 Ferrari California handles just as well at the track as it does on long cruises.
The 2011 Ferrari California is unique among other exotic sports cars. Compared to other convertibles, the "California’s retractable hardtop makes it more practical and comfortable" year-round. Granted, this Ferrari does have rivals with more power and better handling, but reviewers like the California’s combination of performance and comfort. "Car shoppers "looking for a more powerful exotic sports car might consider the 2011 Lamborghini Gallardo. The Gallardo lacks the California’s retractable hardtop and decent cargo capacity, but offers a V10 powerplant with rocket-like performance.

The "Ferrari California" sees no changes for 2011. Starting at $192,000, the Ferrari California comes with a 4.3-liter V8 and either a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic or six-speed manual transmission.
The "Ferrari California" is an exceptionally innovative car whose philosophy takes its inspiration from the spirit and emotions of one of the great Ferraris of the past, the 1957 250 California, a superbly elegant open top car designed for the track, which has, over the years, come to symbolize not only superior sportiness and performance but also exclusivity, craftsmanship and faultless sophistication.

The 2011 California joins Ferrari's 8-cylinder range which is made up mostly of very high performance models. The "Ferrari California" is a car with the track in its DNA. In line with "Ferrari" tradition, this model positively brims with innovative features.

The "California's" sleek aerodynamic styling is, like the rest of the current Ferrari models, the result of their longstanding collaboration with Pininfarina and offers a host of signature Ferrari styling cues. At the rear, the sides and the muscular tail section are both familiar too. Situated between the front seats, the new aluminum-trimmed center console is another distinctive touch that goes beyond the merely aesthetic, beautifully combining functionality and design.
Ferrari's smallest car, the California, gets its name from the original 250 California Spyder, of Ferris Bueller fame.

The California's interior is leather and comes standard with a rear storage shelf, but rear seats are optional. Dual-zone climate control, a navigation system, aluminum accents and power-adjustable seats are standard; among the options are adaptive headlights and heated front seats. Interior features include:
Typical of Ferrari engines — naturally aspirated, with sky-high horsepower per liter — the California's 4.3-liter V-8 makes 453 hp at a howling 7,750 rpm and 357 pounds-feet of torque at 5,000 rpm.

2011 Ferrari 458 Italia

Ferrari 458 Italia
The stunning Ferrari 458 Italia is still fresh from its reveal, but already the slightly mental minds at Motor Authority have dreamed up the car's logical Spider extension, previewed here in these renderings. The Spider will accordingly see production as a 2011 model, giving the Prancing Horse marque time to do the voodoo necessary to cut the roof off an otherwise perfectly good Ferrari.

Keeping the weight down will be the primary mission, since the Spider will likely need some extra internal bracing to maintain sufficient rigidity, pushing it over the coupe's 3,030lb weight.
Ferrari, the noted sports car maker based in Maranello, Italy, was founded in 1928. In the late 1970s, Ferrari introduced its 308, a successor to the Dino 246—the automaker’s first high-volume sports car. The mid-engine, two-seat V-8 model was followed by the Ferrari 328, Ferrari 348, Ferrari 355 and the Ferrari 360 (one of the automaker’s best-selling models ever).

Replacing the F430 as Ferrari’s mid-engine weapon, the Ferrari 458 has a new, direct-injected, 562-hp, 4.5-liter V-8 wrapped in a handsome Italian suit.

Highs
Assaults the senses with awesomeness, easy to drive very fast, accurate steering, an F1-like V-8 that revs to 9000 rpm.

Ferrari's early cars were dominated by V12 engines. Strictly speaking, the first road-going production-V8 Ferrari was the wedge-shaped, Bertone-designed Dino GT4 of 1973.

Since then, this series of uncompromising mid-engine V8 driver's cars has dominated Maranello production. The result is a stiffer car, with much more accurate control of the wheel geometry and lateral movement. Brakes are Brembo carbon-ceramic rotors. Despite all the chassis unobtainium, this 3274-pound car is 300 pounds heavier than the outgoing 430. That means this Ferrari can run to nearly 130 mph before a Toyota Priushits 60 mph.

So never mind the current F430; this car is faster to 60 mph than a Ferrari Enzo and less than a second slower than that epochal million-dollar car to 124 mph. Yikes.

Aerodynamics play a big part in this performance equation. Even the engine bay is vented with high-pressure air from the rear-wheel arches. Downforce at the top speed of 202 mph is equal to 794 pounds, almost a third of this car's curb weight.

Where Mercedes-Benz and Porsche have been going back to basics with their sports cars, Ferrari has unashamedly upped the electronics quotient with the Ferrari 458. The revised suspension provides more accurate wheel articulation, and the steering rack ratio has been made quicker--a mere two turns lock-to-lock. To prevent such a quick rack from feeling too darty at speed, the safety systems (stability control, electronic differential, electronically adjustable dampers, ABS and the engine and transmission controls) are all handled by the same master electronic control unit which speeds responses and allows more tailored intervention. For the future, Ferrari is working on even more advanced chassis control systems inspired by the Northrop Grumman B-2 Stealth bomber, where they engineer an unstable but dynamically superior car and rely on electronic intervention to prevent drivers from getting into trouble.

The Drive
Unlike the old automated manual transmission Ferraris, maneuvering this twin-clutch model is easy, with no telltale whiffs of burning clutch. The steering is so sharp you could cut yourself, and it's very easy to overdrive this car in a series of twitching, elbows-out wheel movements. The engine note is hardcore race car and Italians would stand at the side of the road applauding the scarlet coupe trundling past sounding like an Indy 500 entrant. A car for all seasons? Ferrari says it will be up around 10 percent on the outgoing $187,925 F430 model.

2011 Ferrari Sport Cars Superamerica 45

2011 Ferrari Sport Cars Superamerica 45
The Ferrari sports car was build for Peter Kalikow, a Ferrari collector from New York, the rich people, who is a real estate entrepreneur, to celebrate that he’s a Ferrari client and driver for 45 years. The Ferrari Superamerica 45 is styled internally by Ferrari Design and engineered and built in-house. The sports car features an unique roof system which opens the roof-top by fliping it backwards.
2011 Ferrari Sport Cars Superamerica 45
The Special Projects Ferrari Superamerica 45 is a unique one-off model. The 2011 Ferrari Sport Cars Superamerica 45 model was built in-house and styled internally by Ferrari Design, making its public debut on the 20th of May at the Villa d'Este Concorso d'Eleganza. When open, the roof is housed by an entirely new boot, while the design appears to be bespoke, featuring a carbon-fiber rotating hard-top which integrates a rear screen.
The 2011 Ferrari Sport Cars Superamerica 45 is built around an aluminium spaceframe chassis similar to the limited production 599 Aperta roadster. Power comes from the very potent V12 also used in the 599 GTO. Based on the engine originally used for the Enzo, it produces well over 650 bhp. This is transferred to the rear wheels by a semi-automatic gearbox, which is operated by paddles behind the steering wheel. Carbon ceramic discs ensure that the 2011 Ferrari Sport Cars Superamerica 45 can slow down as fast as it can accelerate.
2011 Ferrari Sport Cars Superamerica 45
Like 400 Superamerica Cabriolet, the new 2011 Ferrari Sport Cars Superamerica 45 is finished in a lovely metallic blue paint, which is further accentuated by blue carbon-fibre sections and polished aluminium A-pillars and wing mirrors. Additional vents in the front wings and a spoiler on the tail set the car further apart from the 'standard' 599. The latter was a necessary addition to create sufficient downforce and stability at high speeds. The interior is refined by a carefully selected combination of Cuoio leather trim and Blu Scuro carbon fiber details. The driver will also enjoy a latest-generation touch-screen infotainment system.
2011 Ferrari Sport Cars Superamerica 45
While the 2011 Ferrari Sport Cars Superamerica 45 did make its public debut at Villa d'Este, it was not yet officially delivered. Ever the perfectionist, Kalikow pointed out several details that still need changing before the car is really 'ready'. Among them were the lining on the roof, which will most likely be changed to the same tan leather as the rest of the interior and the door handles, which still need to receive the Kalikow's initials as previously seen on the 612 Kappa.
2011 Ferrari Sport Cars Superamerica 45
When Kalikow does take official delivery of the car, he intends to use it extensively on the road, like he does with a vast majority of the fabulous Ferraris in his collection. We, particularly, can't wait to see the Superamerica 45 next to the 400 Superamerica Cabriolet that inspired this project.
