2012 Buick Enclave Reviews

2012 Buick Enclave

2012 Buick Enclave Reviews

The Buick Enclave offers three rows of seats standard, with seating for up to eight people. Standard 19-inch aluminum wheels; 20-inch chrome-clad wheels optional

Other than receiving some minor feature changes, the Buick Enclave carries over unchanged for 2012.

Overall, though, the Buick Enclave stands out as a solid pick for an upscale family hauler.

Body Styles, Trim Levels, and Options

The 2012 Buick Enclave is a large crossover SUV that's offered in four different trim levels. All have a standard seven-passenger seating configuration via second-row captain's chairs and a third-row bench seat. The Leather Group tacks on leather upholstery, heated power front seats (eight-way driver, four-way passenger) and driver memory settings.

The top-of-the-line Premium Group has the above equipment plus 19-inch chrome wheels, adaptive xenon headlights, heated power-folding outside mirrors with built-in turn signal repeaters, heated and ventilated front seats, a power-adjustable steering column, a 115-volt household-style power outlet and a 10-speaker Bose premium audio system with USB/auxiliary audio input jacks and a pair of rear seat headphone jacks.

Major options vary by trim level and include 20-inch chrome alloy wheels, a dual-pane sunroof, the second-row bench seat and a second-row center console. Electronics upgrades include the 10-speaker Bose surround-sound audio system, a rear-seat entertainment system and a navigation system.

The 2012 Buick Enclave is offered with either front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive. EPA fuel economy estimates stand at 17 mpg city/24 mpg highway and 19 mpg combined for front-wheel-drive models, while all-wheel-drive versions rate 16/22/18.

Safety

Stability control, front-seat side airbags and full-length side curtain airbags are standard on every 2012 Buick Enclave. Even the third-row seats are suitable for adult passengers.

Driving Impressions

Other large crossovers feel more nimble, but overall the Enclave's handling inspires confidence.

This Enclave is awfully quiet both in town and on the freeway. Likewise, I found some of the materials unacceptable in this price class. The steering wheel had casting flash and unpleasant hard plastics right at the fingertip touch points. There's lots of room, though, and the Enclave is nicely configurable for multiple needs.

Even a loaded Ford Explorer--more this crossover's competition, whether Buick wants to admit it or not--comes out significantly less than the Enclave and offers a far superior driving experience. Pass.

eAssistdetails
TheeAssistsystem is mated to a 2.4L Ecotec direct-injection four-cylinder engine and next-generation six-speed automatic transmission. It uses power stored in an advanced, air-cooled lithium-ion battery to provide needed electrical boost in various driving scenarios, optimizing engine and transmission operation. An advanced 115V lithium-ion battery and latest-generation 15-kW motor-generator unit help increase fuel economy through:
  • Regenerative braking, which provides up to 15 kW of electricity to charge the battery

  • Providing up to 15 hp (11 kW) of electric power assistance during heavier acceleration

  • Automatic and smooth engine start-stop functionality when the vehicle is stopped

  • The use of electricity instead of gasoline when stopped

  • Aggressive fuel cut-off during deceleration down to zero mph for added fuel savings

  • Intelligent charge/discharge of the high-voltage battery.

TheeAssistsystem captures up to 15kW of energy that would be normally lost during braking and uses it to recharge the lithium-ion battery. The system also shuts down fuel delivery in certain deceleration conditions, further improving fuel economy. While in fuel shut-off mode, the motor-generator unit continues spinning along with the engine to provide immediate and smooth take-off power when the driver presses on the accelerator. As the vehicle comes to a stop, the engine’s start-stop function is active when the motor-generator unit brings the engine to a smooth stop to position it properly for a smooth restart when the brake is released.
A hill-assist system captures brake pressure to help keep the vehicle stationary wheneAssist’s start-stop function is activated on a moderate or steep grade, allowing the driver to accelerate more smoothly from a stop.
Buick LaCrosse witheAssisttechnology also features improved underbody aerodynamics and tires optimized for performance and fuel economy, as well as active control of front-end airflow that improves aerodynamics and engine warm-up. Electronically controlled shutters in the lower grille close at higher speeds to push more air over the vehicle, which increases aerodynamic efficiency to enhance fuel economy. All of these technologies increase theeAssistsystem’s regenerative braking capability, while also improving the vehicle’s efficiency while driving.
An ECO gauge on the instrument panel continuously responds to driving behavior, allowing the driver to drive with maximum efficiency.
LaCrosse luxury, quietness and personal technology
In the pursuit of greater fuel efficiency, the LaCrosse witheAssistgives up none of the driving attributes, quietness or technology that have helped make this luxury sedan one of the fastest-selling in the segment.
The driving experience is underpinned by a four-wheel independent suspension system, including a four-link rear suspension that uses isolating mounts to minimize noise and vibration. StabiliTrak electronic stability control system is standard, as is a variable-effort power steering system, four-wheel disc brakes with four-channel ABS, electronic brake force distribution and brake assist system.
Inside is a flowing, uninterrupted design theme that wraps around the instrument and door panels. Attention to detail is evident throughout the interior, including the analog instrument cluster, chrome offset by dark woodgrain accents, and contrasting stitching on the instrument panel. Ice blue ambient lighting is used throughout the cabin, including the center console, instrument panel and door handle pockets.
Buick’s signature QuietTuning – an engineering process to reduce, block and absorb interior noise – provides a distraction-free passenger environment.
The contemporary atmosphere of the cabin is accented with available digital connectivity and personal technologies including in-dash navigation with a 40-gig hard drive (10 gigs reserved for music), Bluetooth, an auxiliary audio input and a USB port. Rear-seat passengers can enjoy an available power rear-window sunshade and a DVD entertainment system with two display screens integrated into the seatbacks.
Later in the year, LaCrosse with eAssist will come with standard Buick IntelliLink, which uses Bluetooth or USB to connect the driver’s smartphone to a new eight-inch, high-resolution, full-color touch screen display radio. IntelliLink expands on Buick’s current Bluetooth and USB capabilities to allow smartphone control via voice activation and steering wheel-mounted controls. It also enables streaming stereo audio from the phone through services like PANDORA®Internet radio and Stitcher SmartRadio®.
Most importantly, Buick IntelliLink enables seamless integration of stowed portable devices with each vehicle’s infotainment system, allowing drivers to keep their hands on the wheel and eyes on the road.
LaCrosse’s intelligent technologies also work to deliver a 360-degree field of vision behind the steering wheel, for a greater feeling of comfort, security and safety. Side Blind Zone Alert technology, which notifies the driver if a vehicle in adjacent lanes is traveling in the driver’s blind spot, is available, as is a rearview camera system that features a display integrated into the navigation system screen.
The technologies available on LaCrosse enhance standard safety features including front-, side- and roof-mounted head-curtain air bags, and GM’s StabiliTrak stability- and traction-control system. The safety and security of OnStar is also included for the first year of ownership.
LaCrosse witheAssistis manufactured at GM’s Fairfax Assembly facility in Kansas City, Kan.

2012 Buick LaCrosse with eAssist, first hybrid sedan

The 2012 Buick LaCrosse with eAssist, the brand's first hybrid sedan,
The pricing strategy carefully slots the Buick hybrid in a near-luxury hybrid category, just above the 2012 Ford Fusion Hybrid, but below the 2012 Lincoln MKZ Hybrid and the 2011 Lexus HS Hybrid.

The 2012 Fusion Hybrid starts at $29,395, including a $795 destination charge. The LaCrosse hybrid carries a $2,830 premium over the base 2011 Buick LaCrosse CX, which starts at $27,990, including destination.
The LaCrosse also comes with front-wheel drive as standard, though an all-wheel drive option will also be offered.

Though final EPA estimates are yet to come in, GM’s own estimates for the 2012 Buick LaCrosse eAssist are 25/37 mpg city/highway.

The latest version of GM’s eAssist technology pairs the LaCrosse’s 182 horsepower 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine with an electric motor rated at 11 kW (15 horsepower). Unlike a full hybrid system, eAssist cannot power a vehicle on electric power alone but works to aid the engine during high load situations and help reduce fuel consumption.

The system also features a regenerative braking system to help charge the car’s air-cooled 115 volt lithium-ion battery pack.

Standard features include dual-zone climate control, 17-inch alloy wheels, and Bluetooth and USB connectivity. The 2012 Buick LaCrosse eAssist will hit showrooms in the next several weeks.

Details are limited, but eAssist has an engine start /stop system and a power boost capability (where the electric motor works with the petrol engine for improved acceleration). Thanks to this setup, the hybrid is expected to return 25 mpg city / 37 mpg highway - an improvement of 6 mpg city / 7 mpg highway

2012 Buick Verano

2012 Buick Verano
Riding on a version of the Chevrolet Cruze’s Delta architecture, the Buick Verano will slot beneath the Regal in Buick’s lineup. At the forthcoming North American International Auto Show in Detroit, Buick will reveal publicly its third new model in the past two years and first in the compact luxury segment, the 2012 Buick Verano

Following Buick’s current design language, the Buick Verano features a sculpted design with a familiar Buick face. Historically accurate hood-mounted porthole vents complete the Verano’s front end.
The" Verano’s interior "carries over the theme of luxury and sport, featuring a dash and center stack that is familiar within the Buick family. The 2012 Buick Verano is available with a number of luxury features, including a heated steering wheel, heated front seats, touch screen navigation and Bluetooth connectivity.

Although no timeframe was given, Buick says the Verano will eventually be offered with a 2.0L turbocharged engine. Given the Verano is about 300 pounds lighter than the Regal, a Verano GS would certainly be best performer in the Buick lineup.
Buick failed to release pricing for the Verano, but we expect that information closer to the car’s fourth quarter 2011 launch.

General Motors continues to overhaul its Buick line-up, with the 2012 Buick Verano being the brand’s first compact.Among the big available features are 10 standard airbags, a heated steering wheel and the latest generation OnStar.

Built from the same platform as the recently introduced Chevrolet Cruze and built at the Orion Township in Michigan that will also build the new Chevrolet Sonic sub-compact, the 2012 Verano was introduced at the 2011 North American International Auto Show in Detroit. The overall interior volume is the same as Cruze, but there are differences in leg, shoulder and head room, with Buick Verano bettering Cruze in the width dimensions at the sake of head and leg room.
Four wheel anti-lock disc brakes (with electronic brake force distribution), traction control and Stabilitrak electronic stability control are all standard.

Befitting a Buick, the interior features premium upholstery, metallic or wood trim and soft touch materials for all touch surfaces. Standards include dual-zone climate control, power windows and a sliding console armrest.

2011 Buick LaCrosse Overviews

2011 Buick LaCrosse
The 2011 Buick LaCrosse is shot across the bow from GM to longtime luxury leaders like Lexus. The LaCrosse is upscale enough to challenge entry-level luxury cars, but priced like the higher trim levels of some affordable cars. If you're willing to spend more, make your comparisons in the luxury car classes. If you're looking to save a few bucks, compare the LaCrosse to affordable midsize cars.

Like the LaCrosse, it has a zen-quiet cabin. While the ES does cost more than the LaCrosse, the Lexus brand may have more cachet with luxury shoppers.
Also, the four-cylinder model gets a new electric-assist power steering system.
The 2011 Buick LaCrosse has pared down its engine choices this year, as the 255-horsepower 3.0-liter V6 has been discontinued while the 182-hp 2.4-liter inline-4 and the 280-hp 3.6-liter V6 go forward. Overall, we're impressed by the 2011 Buick LaCrosse. The 2011 Buick LaCrosse is offered in three trim levels: CX, CXL and CXS.

The base CX includes 17-inch steel wheels, a power driver seat, a tilt-and-telescoping steering wheel with audio controls, full power accessories, OnStar and a seven-speaker audio system with a CD/MP3 player, an auxiliary audio jack and satellite radio. Options for the CX include 17-inch alloy wheels and a Comfort and Convenience package that includes dual-zone automatic climate control, an auto-dimming mirror, Bluetooth, power lumbar adjustment for the driver seat, a power front passenger seat and remote engine start. There's also the optional Luxury package that includes a heated leather/wood-grain steering wheel, ventilated front seats, a power rear sunshade and keyless ignition/entry.

Individual option highlights include a sunroof, chrome wheels, a navigation system (with rearview camera and digital music storage), a rear seat entertainment system (with dual display screens) and the Harman Kardon audio system.

The CXS trim level includes 19-inch alloy wheels and everything above except the navigation system, power sunroof, Driver Confidence package and rear entertainment system, which all remain optional. For CX and CXL trims, a 2.4-liter inline-4 with 182 hp and 172 pound-feet of torque is the standard engine. The CXL is available in either front- or all-wheel drive -- a plus for those in snowy climates. All LaCrosse models feature a six-speed automatic transmission.
The AWD version rates 16/26/20.

Safety
The 2011 Buick LaCrosse features standard front-seat side airbags, full-length side curtain airbags, OnStar communications, stability and traction control, and antilock disc brakes with brake assist. Rear-seat side airbags are also available as an option. In Insurance Institute for Highway Safety testing, the Buick scored "Good" ratings (the highest possible) in that agency's frontal-offset and side-impact tests.

The 2011 Buick LaCrosse boasts an elegant and contemporary interior.
Driving Impressions
From the driver seat, the 2011 Buick LaCrosse exhibits an enjoyable blend of luxury and engagement. Rear visibility, however, is compromised by the car's high rear deck and thick roof pillars.

The 3.6-liter V6 engine will remain.
Vehicle Specifications
Fuel economy: four-cylinder model should get 19 mpg city/30 mpg highway
Engine: 2.4-liter, 182 horsepower inline four-cylinder; 3.6-liter, 280 hp V6
Acceleration: information on the acceleration of the four-cylinder engine is unavailable; the 3.6-liter V6 has plenty of power

2011 Buick Lucerne Reviews

2011 Buick Lucerne
The 2011 Buick Lucerne offers comfortable seating, plenty of power, and smooth handling. While Buick was considering changing the Lucerne to a rear wheel drive vehicle for 2011, it retains the front wheel drive capabilities.

Even the standard CX package offers luxury features when you’re considering the 2011 Buick Lucerne.
The 2011 Buick Lucerne receives only minor updates, including streamlined trim levels, new audio systems and standard stability control on all models.

Of course, some buyers may appreciate the Lucerne's old-school vibe. If you're partial to the grand Buick sedans of yesteryear like the Park Avenue and LeSabre, you'll feel right at home in the 2011 Buick Lucerne. Smooth and comfortable ride? Check. Check. On the move, the Lucerne disappoints with slow steering, lifeless handling, a bargelike turning circle and barely adequate brakes.
As basic transportation, the 2011 Buick Lucerne is good enough. The 2011 Buick Lucerne is a full-size luxury sedan offered in four trim levels: CX, CXL, CXL Premium and top-of-the-line Super. Five-passenger seating is standard and six-passenger seating with a 40/20/40 front split bench seat is available on all trim levels except Super.

The Comfort and Convenience package includes dual-zone automatic climate control and Bluetooth.
The CXL Premium includes the Driver Confidence package, plus chromed alloy wheels, a driver auto-dimming mirror, a lane-departure warning system, a blind-spot warning system and a nine-speaker Harman Kardon audio system.

Finally, the Super trim takes the Lucerne experience to another level with V8 power, 18-inch chrome alloy wheels, a sunroof (optional on CXL and CXL Premium), adaptive magnetic ride control, magnetic steering, perforated leather/faux-suede upholstery, heated and cooled front seats, a power tilt-and-telescoping steering wheel and a touchscreen navigation system with real-time traffic. The front-wheel-drive Buick Lucerne offers two engines from which to choose. The CX and CXL models are equipped with a 3.9-liter V6 producing 227 hp and 237 pound-feet of torque.

Safety
Every 2011 Buick Lucerne is equipped with antilock brakes, traction and stability control, front side-impact airbags and side curtain airbags. The Lucerne has not been rated using the government's new, more strenuous 2011 crash testing procedures. The seats are comfortable, with ample room front and back, and a Lucerne advantage is the ability to seat six if needed.

The 2011 Buick Lucerne Large Cars. This ranking is based on our analysis of 87 published reviews and test drives of the Buick Lucerne, and our analysis of reliability and safety data.
In that respect the 2011 Buick Lucerne is a decent choice.
If you’re looking for a car that’s quiet and comfortable, with a reasonably nice interior and conservative styling, the Lucerne will work just fine. The 2011 Buick Lucerne has one of the highest starting prices in the affordable large car class. The Ford Taurus has been winning great reviews for its sharply-tailored looks and high-tech cabin. If you’re a Buick fan, it may be worth passing over the Lucerne in favor of the Buick LaCrosse.

Buick Lucerne: The Details
The 2011 Buick Lucerne has four available trims: CX, CXL, EXL and the top-of-the-line Super. For 2011, GM’s StabiliTrak electronic stability control system is standard on all trims.

Buick Regal new model for 2011

The 2011 Buick Regal offers midsize sedan buyers a sporty option that can compete with some upscale models.

Not only that, Autoblog, like other reviewers, argues that the Regal can compete with upscale midsize sport sedans like the Acura TSX and Audi A4.

Among midsize cars, the Regal shines with performance that balances fuel economy and power, handling and ride comfort. All in all, if you're shopping midsize sedans, reviewers say that the Regal should be on your short list.

The Regal's price makes it more expensive than most base-model affordable midsize cars, but less expensive than other upscale midsize cars.

Details: Buick Regal
The Buick Regal is an all-new model for 2011.
the Buick Regal nameplate returns after a six-year hiatus. Mention the words Buick Regal and you're bound to get one of three responses. The 2011 Buick Regal is based on the Opel Insignia and as such shares that smart sedan's athletic handling and well-sorted European ride. Basically, you can consider this Buick's midsize car.

The 3,600-pound Regal is available with a 2.4-liter inline-4 that sports direct fuel-injection technology and high fuel economy (up to 30 mpg highway), but we've found its 182 horsepower inadequate for motivating a car with luxury aspirations -- most midsize sedans without luxury aspirations are quicker. A turbocharged 2.0-liter engine sporting 220 hp and 258 pound-feet of torque is also offered and is a much better choice. Buick is positioning the 2011 Regal against the likes of the Acura TSX and Lexus IS 250. The 2011 Buick Regal is a midsize family sport sedan available in two trim levels: CXL and CXL Turbo. Standard equipment includes 18-inch alloy wheels, foglamps, heated sideview mirrors, keyless entry, dual-zone automatic climate control, cruise control, full power accessories, OnStar, leather upholstery, a power driver seat, heated front seats, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, a tilt-and-telescoping steering column, a trip computer, a 60/40-split rear seatback, a seven-speaker stereo (with CD/MP3 player, satellite radio, iPod/auxiliary audio jacks and steering-wheel-mounted controls) and Bluetooth connectivity.

Opting for the Regal CXL Turbo will add rear parking sensors and a 12-way power-adjustable front passenger seat -- both of which are available on the standard Regal CXL as part of the optional Comfort and Convenience package. Options exclusive to the turbo model include 19-inch wheels, xenon headlights and an Interactive Drive Control system with Sport, Tour and Standard modes. Options for either Regal include a sunroof, a hard-drive-based navigation system with digital music storage and a nine-speaker Harman Kardon premium audio system.
The EPA estimates fuel economy at 19 mpg city/30 mpg highway and 23 mpg in combined driving for the 2.4-liter engine.

Safety
Standard safety equipment for all 2011 Buick Regal models include antilock brakes, traction control, stability control, OnStar, front seat side-impact airbags and full-length side curtain airbags.

Driving Impressions
Quick steering and a firm, unwavering attitude on a winding road give the Regal plenty of sport sedan credibility. Sport mode noticeably improves the Regal's sportiness, while Tour gives the car a compliant ride without a hint of old-school Buick float.

This midsize sedan offers luxury and performance.
The turbo also offers the Interactive Drive Control System, which lets you choose from three driving modes: Sport, for the most performance; Tour, for driving long trips; and Standard, the ordinary mode.

The Regal's fuel economy numbers are 18 mpg city, 28 highway for the automatic six-speed to 20 and 32 for the manual.

The turbo offers impressive on-road performance, with good handling and braking. The Regal offers a solid package of safety features, including dual stage front airbags, front seat side impact airbags and head curtain side airbags standard. The 18-inch aluminum wheels are standard, but 19-inch rims are available.

2012 Buick Regal Hybrid

General Motors has unveiled the Buick Regal Hybrid at the Chicago Auto Show.

The Buick Regal Hybrid is expected to have similar consumption figures as the LaCrosse, as the e-Assist will enable a 25 percent boost in efficiency. This means that the 2.4-litre 4-cylinder engine powering the Buick Regal Hybrid which will use a six-speed transmission will most probably return around 31 mpg (combined cycle) / 7,9-litres per 100 Km.

The same 17-inch lightweight alloy wheels (and low rolling resistance tires) are used on both Buicks. Thanks to the Regal’s smaller size, however, the wheels don’t appear as undersized as they do on the LaCrosse. If the driver is in an especially green mood, the car can be put into a fuel economy optimizing mode with the AC unit that allows for more frequent and longer engine stop periods.

The Buick Regal with e-Assist is more likely to be marketed as a premium engine choice for buyers of the compact sedan, unlike the current setup for the LaCrosse full-size four-door where the hybrid version has become the vehicle’s entry-level model. GM has cited cost concerns which prevent the Regal from enjoying the same ultra-thrifty base drivetrain.

Press Release

2012 Regal to Offer New eAssistTM Fuel-Saving Technology

  • eAssist "light electrification" system improves fuel economy 25 percent
  • Estimated 26 mpg city / 37 mpg highway (pending EPA certification)
  • On sale this fall
CHICAGO - Buick announced the 2012 Regal with eAssistTM fuel-saving technology, which improves overall fuel economy by 25 percent over the 2011 four-cylinder/six-speed powertrain. Estimated fuel economy is 26 mpg city and 37 mpg on the highway (pending EPA certification).

Regal with eAssist joins the 2012 LaCrosse as the second Buick to feature the efficiency-enhancing technology. The system uses a state-of-the-art lithium-ion battery system, electric induction motor-generator and regenerative braking capability to improve fuel economy. Its fuel economy tops competitors such as the Acura TSX, rated at 22 mpg city and 31 mpg highway. Regal's estimated 37 mpg on the highway is 20 percent greater and the TSX doesn't offer a six-speed automatic transmission, which is standard on the Buick.

"Buick's eAssist technology means customers don't have to trade a premium driving experience for efficiency," said Tony DiSalle, vice president of Buick marketing. "We believe Regal and LaCrosse with eAssist provide more logical and affordable choices, compared to other hybrid midsize and full-size luxury sedans."

Regal with eAssist goes on sale this fall. It joins an expanding lineup that also includes 2.4L and 2.0L Turbo (with manual transmission) models, as well as the upcoming Regal GS. Regal with eAssist offers the range of luxury and convenience packages offered in the other models, along with unique features that include:

Lightweight 17-inch alloy wheels and tires with lower rolling resistance
A driver-selectable, fuel economy-optimizing mode for the air conditioning system, which enables more frequent and longer-duration engine stop periods
An ECO gauge on the instrument panel that continuously responds to driving behavior, enabling the driver to drive with greater efficiency
A powerflow readout in the 7-inch infotainment screen, which shows the flow of energy through the electric assist system, such as battery charging from regeneration and electric power directed to the engine.
eAssist details
Mated to Regal's 2.4L Ecotec direct injection four-cylinder engine and next-generation six-speed automatic transmission, the eAssist system uses power stored in the battery to provide needed electrical boost in various driving scenarios, optimizing engine and transmission operation. An advanced 115V lithium-ion battery and latest-generation 15-kW induction motor-generator unit help increase fuel economy through:

Regenerative braking, which provides up to 15 kW of electricity to charge the battery
Providing up to 11 kW (15 hp) of electric power assistance during acceleration
Automatic engine shut-off when the vehicle is stopped
Aggressive fuel cut-off during deceleration down to zero vehicle speed, enabled by the torque smoothing provided by the induction motor-generator unit
Intelligent charge/discharge of the high-voltage battery.
"The capability to deliver electric boost to the powertrain system during heavy acceleration and grade driving enables the engine and transmission to operate more efficiently," said Steve Poulos, global chief engineer of the eAssist system. "Full fuel shutoff at stops and during deceleration complements electric boost and regenerative braking with additional fuel savings."

Regal with eAssist technology also features improved underbody aerodynamics and tires optimized for performance and fuel economy. It also features a hill-assist system that captures brake pressure to help the driver more comfortably accelerate from a stop on a moderate or steep grade. It does this by greatly reducing the tendency of the vehicle to roll backward with the engine in shut-down mode.

The eAssist system's 115V air-cooled lithium-ion battery bolsters the 2.4L Ecotec four-cylinder engine with approximately 11 kW (15 hp) of electric power assist during heavy acceleration and 15 kW of regenerative braking power. The system also enables the Ecotec engine to shut down fuel delivery in certain deceleration conditions, which saves additional fuel. While in fuel shut-off mode, the induction motor-generator unit continues spinning along with the engine to provide immediate and smooth take-off power when the driver presses on the accelerator. Then, as the vehicle comes to a stop, the induction motor-generator unit spins the engine, bringing it to a smooth stop - properly positioned for a smooth restart.

"The battery system is designed to provide power assistance to the internal combustion engine, rather than store energy for all-electric propulsion," said Poulos. "It's really an extension of the conventional internal combustion engine, not a replacement for it."

The eAssist power pack contains the lithium-ion battery pack, the integrated power inverter and 12V power supply. It is located in a compartment between the rear seat and trunk; and it is surprisingly compact and lightweight, weighing only about 65 pounds (29 kg). Trunk space is slightly reduced when compared with 2011 models with the four-cylinder/six-speed powertrain, but still offers 11.1 cubic feet (314 liters) of storage. A quiet electric fan cools the power pack, drawing air from a vent located in the package tray, behind the rear seat.

The eAssist system's electric induction motor-generator is mounted to the engine in place of the alternator to provide both motor assist and electric-generating functions through a unique engine belt-drive system. The induction motor-generator is a high-performance, compact induction motor that is liquid-cooled for increased performance and efficiency.

Next-generation six-speed
The eAssist system works with Regal's direct injected 2.4L Ecotec four-cylinder and next-generation six-speed automatic powertrain combination. In the Regal with eAssist, the engine is rated at 182 horsepower (136 kW) and the next-generation Hydra-Matic 6T40 takes transmission technology to the next level with features designed to enhance powertrain efficiency.

Significant internal transmission changes to clutch controls and hardware provide reduced spin losses while improving shift response and time. The added electric power provided by the eAssist system allows for higher gearing to improve steady state efficiency without impacting acceleration performance or driveability. The system's ability to provide some electric assistance at cruising speeds allows the driver to accelerate lightly or ascend mild grades without the transmission downshifting.

An auxiliary, electric-driven transmission oil pump is added to the 6T40, which keeps the transmission primed and the fluid flowing when the engine shuts down at a stop. That keeps the transmission ready to perform when the driver accelerates, for a seamless, uncompromised driving experience.

Buick Verano 2012 specs features and price details

Here we provide Buick Verano 2012 specifications,Buick Verano 2012 features and Buick Verano 2012 overviews. You will have to get a full and detailed structure of Buick Verano 2012.TOP SPEED have been equipped with some rare and High resolution wallpapers of the Buick Verano 2012.Buick Verano 2012 price may be very with Addition of extra segments.

Verano is only attainable with front-wheel drive.Like the Regal, a 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine equipped with direct injection lurks underhood and devolopes 177 horsepower and 170 pound-feet of torque. The Cruze, meanwhile, uses different engines altogether – either a normally aspirated 1.8-liter or a 1.4-liter turbocharged four-cylinder. Interestingly, the Ventiports on the Verano's hood are false advertising, with six holes to suggest there's a six-cylinder engine underhood.

Either way, Buick says the larger four-cylinder is estimated to achieve 22 miles per gallon in the city and 31 mpg on the highway. To sweeten the pot, Buick also says that a turbocharged 2.0-liter four will be available after the Verano's initial launch, and while we don't have any details on this engine, we'll bet our bottom dollar that it's exactly the same one that's used in the Regal.

Official pricing will surely be announced closer to the car's on-sale date near the end of 2011. If early reports are to be believed, however, expect the Verano to be priced around $21,000 for base models, going as high as $26,000 for cars with all of the trimmings. We'll have more information live from the Detroit Auto Show next week, but in the meantime, check out our high-res gallery and official press release after the break.

Official: 2011 Buick GL8 unveiled for China

Buick has released an all-new version of its popular GL8 in China. The new GL8 builds on the original GL8 and will be released in January.

The new GL8 comes with a choice between 3.0-liter V-6 SIDI intelligent direct injection engine and a 2.4-liter Ecotec engine with segment-leading fuel efficiency. GM’s advanced 6-speed automatic transmission comes standard, providing unrivaled power in the luxury MPV segment.

Inside, the seven-passenger cabin is elegantly appointed with a wrap-around dashboard, blue ambient lighting, wood trim, and tasteful metallic accents. Options include two-tone leather seats, a panoramic sunroof, power-sliding doors, a Bose audio system, and a rear seat entertainment system with a 10.2-inch screen.

All-New Buick GL8 Luxury MPV Now Available

330,000 GL8s Sold Across China Since Model's Debut

Shanghai - The all-new Buick GL8 from Shanghai GM is now available. The luxury MPV builds on the heritage of the original GL8, China's first family of executive wagons. Since the model's debut in 1999, more than 330,000 have been sold across China.

The new model, which will reach the market in January 2011, features seven innovations and 27 technological breakthroughs along with improvements in design, space and safety, technology, power, features and quality. The result is an unprecedented luxury MPV experience that is unmistakably Buick.

"The new GL8 was developed by Shanghai GM in cooperation with the Pan Asia Technical Automotive Center (PATAC) in Shanghai with the specific needs of our customers in mind," said Terry Johnsson, Shanghai GM Vice President of Vehicle Sales, Service and Marketing. "It offers everything that consumers have come to expect from Buick, including a dynamic, smooth, quiet and comfortable ride. Like its predecessor, the new GL8 is the right product at the right time."

The new GL8 has a graceful exterior design highlighted by Buick's distinctive double sweep spear running from front to back. Decorative metal bands add a sense of smooth, modern elegance. Its classic waterfall grille and chrome portholes further underscore the new GL8's Buick heritage.

With a length of 5,256 mm, a width of 1,878 mm, a height of 1,800 mm and a wheelbase of 3,088 mm, the new GL8 provides a spacious ride for all occupants. The dignified interior merges Eastern and Western aesthetics. It features ice-blue atmosphere lighting and a 360-degree wraparound design inspired by luxury yachts.

Among the other amenities available are two-tone ergonomic genuine leather seats; a two-piece panorama sunroof; an electric anti-pinch sliding door and one-touch electric lift rear door; a 10-speaker, 5.1-channel Bose sound system; a 7-inch touch screen up front and 10.2-inch WVGA HD display in back; and the OnStar in-vehicle safety, security and communication service.

An enhanced suspension with independent front-and-back sub-frames ensures a smooth, steady ride. Buick's signature QuietTuning reduces, blocks and absorbs interior noise, for a distraction-free environment that is comparable to that of a luxury sedan.

The new GL8 comes with a choice of a 3.0-liter V-6 SIDI intelligent direct injection engine or a 2.4-liter Ecotec engine with segment-leading fuel efficiency. GM's advanced 6-speed automatic transmission comes standard, providing unrivaled power in the luxury MPV segment.

In the area of safety, the new GL8 has a super-solid body frame. The Bosch 8.1 ESP system delivers premium handling. It is complemented by large-size tires and disc brakes, with six air bags available on selected models. For maximum visibility, the new GL8 incorporates multi-dimensional blue ray Bi-Xenon HID headlights and crystal-like chrome LED taillights.

The new GL8 luxury MPV has a retail price of between RMB 288,000 and RMB 388,000. Shanghai GM is also introducing an upgraded 2011 model of the current Buick GL8 in December 2010, targeting the upper-medium MPV segment. It includes a new 2.4-liter Ecotec engine and a 6-speed automatic transmission. This "dual-vehicle strategy" will enable Shanghai GM to more fully address the MPV market, from the upper-medium to luxury segments.
