The presence of A5 models has become even more prominent. The taillights and the headlights have been restyled, on request, Audi xenon plus technology in them, with homogenous LED daytime running lights. The interior colors and materials set new accents, the operation has been refined in many details.
The new engine program consists entirely of turbocharged direct injection engines. This applies to the four TDI as well as for the three TFSI petrol engine, under which it presents new 1.8 TFSI several groundbreaking innovations. On average, the consumption of the engines has dropped by eleven percent, the start-stop system and the recovery system for all engine-gearbox versions series.
For each engine, optimum power transmission is available - a six-speed manual gearbox, multitronic, seven-speed S tronic, front or quattro drive. On quattro drive train coming, in conjunction with the S tronic, the crown-gear center differential and wheel-selective torque control is used, the sport differential acts as a perfect complement. The chassis has been fine-tuned yet, select the optional Audi drive system and the dynamic steering system further enhance the driving pleasure. New in the A5 family is the electromechanical power steering.
The new A5 is a highly intelligent car. His driver assistance systems are developed intensively in the field of infotainment, the Bluetooth car phone available online. It brings a number of special services on board, and links the A5 to the Internet.
The Audi A5 - a type of success is even more attractive to a successful family is even more attractive: Audi A5 enhances the series. The Sportback, the Coupé, the Cabriolet and S5 models get new solutions that make it even sportier and more efficient - the engines, the quattro drive system and the infotainment. The design is even more dynamic.
Exterior and bodyworkEver since its debut fascinate the models of the A5 family - the Sportback, the coupe and convertible - with its elegance. The flowing silhouettes, sharp lines and the powerful surfaces formulate a strong statement. Revaluation gains in product design to new, sharp accents.

Enginesthe A5 family sets new standards for efficiency and sportiness. All engines are turbocharged direct injection of high pulling power, even the entry-level assembly braces 320 Nm. The start-stop system and the recovery system for all motors are serial - no other manufacturer is going on so consistently. The program includes three petrol and four TDI, while CO2 emissions have fallen by up to 22 percent.
Even the reworked from the ground on 1.8 TFSI has the full expertise of the brand. In controlling the valves and their hubs, the innovative thermal management, with the injection system, the turbocharger and the integration of the exhaust manifold, he presents groundbreaking innovations. The A5 coupe, the high-end four-cylinder consumes an average of just 5.7 liters per 100 km (134 grams of CO2 per km) - the best in its class and 21 percent less than before. With 125 kW (170 hp) drives, the 1.8 TFSI in the A5 powerful.
The 2.0 TFSI develops 155 kW as before (211 hp). New to the Audi A5 is the 3.0 TFSI, a V6 with compressor supercharging, which delivers 200 kW (272 hp).
The diesel engines impressed with their efficiency, the four-cylinder modified in many areas. The 2.0 TDI in the version with manual gearbox and an output of 130 kW (177 hp), is content in the A5 Coupé to 100 km with an average of 4.7 liters per 100 km - equivalent of 122 grams of CO2 per km, and a milestone in the coupe segment.
After three round up the offer V6 diesel. The 3.0 TDI with 150 kW (204 hp) is the world's most fuel-efficient six-cylinder in its class - with the A5 coupe multitronic he is content to 100 km with an average of 4.9 liters of fuel (129 grams of CO2 per km). In the second variant makes the 3.0 TDI 180 kW (245 hp). A little later by a particularly low-emission clean diesel version, it makes the first A5 coupe with a € 6-diesel on the market
Power transmissionfor each engine, Audi offers the ideal power transmission. For the models with front-wheel drive are a manual six-speed transmission and the continuously variable multitronic ready. The quattro versions have a manual gearbox or the lightning-fast-shifting seven-speed S tronic on board. All transmissions are characterized by easy and precise operation, high efficiency and wide spread - the long translation in the upper gears reduces consumption.
With permanent four-wheel drive Quattro A5-family uses in connection with the S tronic transmission - the crown-gear center differential with torque vectoring. In normal driving, the engine powers the mechanical component derives mainly to the rear wheels. If necessary, there it spread quickly and uniformly to - up to 70 percent can flow to the front, a maximum of 85 percent to the rear axle. The torque vectoring makes the handling of small braking interventions targeted more precisely.
For all quattro versions, the sport differential is available as a supplement - with the A5, it goes with maximum precision and high traction. The sport differential divides the torque as needed between the rear wheels running on, for it uses two overlapping steps, which are connected via multi-plate clutches.
ChassisThe A5 models set the standard for sporty dynamics, ride comfort and refined driving safety. Most components of the five-link front and trapezoidal-link rear axle are made of aluminum. The bearing of the rear-axle trailing and damper settings have also been redesigned - the handling is more precise and comfort become even better.
When the A5 variants with front-wheel drive is the stabilization system ESP with electronic differential lock series. With dynamic pace, it makes the car brake by minimal intervention at the inner front wheel even more agile. The big brakes - very slow and can be dosed excellent - with many variants internally ventilated. 17-inch wheels with 225/50 tires are standard series, the radio program goes up to size 20 inches with 265/30 series tires, including four new wheel designs.
Among the high-end features in the series include the driving dynamics system Audi drive select. The basic package, it draws on the power assistance, the accelerator pedal characteristic curve, the switching points of the automatic climate control and on. The driver can set a button in the cockpit, whether these components in the "comfort" mode, "auto", "dynamic" or "efficiency" should work. The latter helps the A5 to move more efficiently. If a navigation system on board, is the level "individual" to which the driver can configure itself in many areas.
On request, Audi drive select can be combined with other components. These are the sports suspension with shock absorber control, the sport differential and the steering dynamics, their translation varies depending on the speed driven continuously by almost 100 percent.
A series of innovation-in the A5 model line is the electromechanical power steering - an electric motor that generates support to match the pace. The electro-mechanical power steering is translated directly speaks spontaneously and provides precise road feel, when braking on slippery surfaces on one side it supports the driver with minor surgery.
The system reduces fuel consumption per 100 km up to 0.3 liters, respectively, by up to 7 g / km CO2, because it takes no energy when driving straight ahead.
Assistance systemsThe assistance systems in the Audi A5 series use different technologies to make driving even more poised to make some of them are refined with new features. Standard equipment includes the new driver information system with interval recommendation - it can be seen from the steering movements and of other parameters, when the driver is tired, and warned him accordingly.
The Audi side assist helps the driver change lanes by monitoring the area behind the car by radar. The new Audi A5 in the active lane assist helps him to stay in lane: A camera detects the lines on the roadway, if necessary, the system corrects the electromechanical steering slightly. The adaptive cruise control radar useless to keep on the A5 at a constant distance to the vehicle ahead. At speeds below 30 km / h, it initiates an emergency braking if a collision is imminent.
Infotainment systemsThe infotainment systems present in the A5 is intensively developed. Audi fitted as standard in all variants of the series, a CD radio with eight speakers.
The optional top unit is the MMI navigation plus with a large hard drive, seven-inch color display, 3D display and DVD player. Your operator terminal has been refined - the number of keys went eight solid back four, the volume control was a joystick cap for easy track selection. Further fine-tuning affects the voice control system and digital radio reception.
As an additional option, the Bluetooth car phone is available online. Under the heading Audi attractive services connect it brings on board the A5 - from the POI search via Google on navigation with Google Earth images to wireless hotspot. About him, the passenger to surf freely on the Internet with their mobile devices and email. The Audi traffic information online, another service to tell the driver high and precise barometer of the load on the selected route, much better known than the TMC standard. To use these features, the driver only needs a data-enabled SIM card.
PricesDespite the extensive appreciation of the series, Audi elevates the prices only modestly. The A5 Coupe 2.0 TFSI about the extra price is 200 €. The entry level model, the Audi A5 Sportback 1.8 TFSI costs, € 33 350.

NEW YORK – Chevrolet celebrated Earth Day at the New York Auto Show by introducing the all-new 2013 Malibu ECO, the most fuel-efficient midsize sedan in its 100-year history. It features eAssist™ “light electrification” technology, which is engineered to deliver an estimated 26 mpg in city driving and 38 mpg on the highway without compromising performance.
ECO is based on the all-new, 2013 Malibu sedan, which will be sold in nearly 100 countries on six continents. Sales of the new Malibu begin with the ECO model in the United States in early 2012. The Malibu LS, LT and LTZ trim level offerings join the ECO in summer 2012. Pricing will be announced later.
“The Malibu ECO is a smart choice for customers who want excellent fuel economy without the price premium of popular hybrid sedans,” said Rick Scheidt, vice president of Chevrolet marketing. “The Malibu ECO’s 38-mpg highway estimate is comparable with those hybrids.”
Malibu’s eAssist system uses a state-of-the-art lithium-ion battery and an electric motor-generator to enable regenerative braking electric assist and start-stop functionality. It is efficiently sized, weighing only 65 pounds (29 kg).
Malibu ECO also features an aerodynamic exterior – including underbody aero enhancements – and electronically controlled shutters in the lower grille that close at higher speeds to push more air over and around the vehicle. These enhancements increase aerodynamic efficiency to boost fuel economy.
An ECO gauge in the cluster continuously responds to driving behavior, encouraging fuel-efficient driving, while an Auto Stop Indicator on the tachometer informs the driver when the engine is in start-stop mode.
“Malibu ECO exemplifies Chevrolet’s drive to use technology that delivers high-value, gas-friendly performance,” said Scheidt. “In fact, the Malibu ECO delivers the fuel economy of a compact car in a midsize sedan.”
eAssist details
Malibu ECO’s eAssist system is mated to a 2.4L Ecotec direct-injection four-cylinder engine and next-generation six-speed automatic transmission. The 2.4L engine is efficient and lightweight, featuring dual-overhead cams, direct injection, continuously variable intake and exhaust timing and electronic throttle control, as well as a lightweight aluminum cylinder block and cylinder head. It is rated at an estimated 180 horsepower (134 kW) and is a variant of the same engine that was recognized as one of Ward's Ten Best Engines in 2010.
Along with the Ecotec 2.4L and six-speed transmission, the eAssist system uses power stored in the air-cooled, lithium-ion battery to provide needed electrical boost in various driving scenarios, optimizing engine and transmission operation. An advanced 115V lithium-ion battery and latest-generation 15-kW motor-generator unit help increase fuel economy through:
Regenerative braking, which provides up to 15 kW of electricity to charge the battery
Providing up to 15 hp (11 kW) of electric power assistance during heavier acceleration
Using electricity instead of gasoline when stopped, with automatic and smooth engine start-stop functionality
Aggressive fuel cut-off during deceleration down to zero mph for added fuel savings
Intelligent charge/discharge of the high-voltage battery.
The eAssist system captures up to 15kW of energy that would be normally lost during braking and uses it to recharge the lithium-ion battery. The system also shuts down fuel delivery in certain deceleration conditions, further improving fuel economy. While in fuel shut-off mode, the motor-generator unit continues spinning along with the engine to provide immediate and smooth take-off power when the driver presses on the accelerator. As the vehicle comes to a stop, the engine’s start-stop function is active when the motor-generator unit brings the engine to a smooth stop to position it properly for a smooth restart when the brake is released.
A hill-assist system captures brake pressure to help keep the vehicle stationary when eAssist’s start-stop function is activated on a moderate or steep grade, allowing the driver to accelerate more smoothly from a stop.
Malibu ECO’s eAssist power pack brings together the lithium-ion battery, the integrated power inverter and 12V power supply. It is located in the trunk, behind the rear seat. The electric motor-generator is mounted to the engine in place of the alternator to provide both motor assist and electric-generating functions through an engine belt-drive system. The motor-generator is a high-performance, compact induction motor that is liquid-cooled for increased performance and efficiency. An electric fan cools the power pack, drawing air from a vent located behind the rear seat.
Thanks to eAssist technology, which also enables a numerically lower final drive ratio, the Malibu ECO can travel as much as 550 miles between fill-ups, despite having only a 15.8-gallon gas tank.
Aero efficiency
Malibu ECO – and the entire 2013 Malibu lineup – was designed to be aerodynamically efficient, with a coefficient of drag near the standout performance of the Chevrolet Volt extended-range electric vehicle.
Aerodynamic design engineers removed about 60 counts of wind drag from the new Malibu, compared to its predecessor. Malibu spent hundreds of hours in GM’s wind tunnel, fine-tuning the form to maximize fuel efficiency. For example, engineers shaped Malibu’s front corners so that air runs close and uninterrupted along the body sides to the rear of the vehicle.
Malibu ECO is among the first in the midsize segment with a fuel-saving, active shutter system in the lower grille. The Malibu Eco’s active shutter system automatically closes airflow through the lower intake opening when air intake is least needed. When closed, the shutter system enhances aero performance by redirecting airflow around the front of the vehicle and down the sides, rather than through it. The shutter is open or closed based on engine coolant temperature and speed. For example, the shutters open when the car is traveling up a hill, pulling a trailer, or in hot city driving; the shutters close at highway speeds when engine cooling is less required.
Other aerodynamic features on the Malibu ECO include:
Outside rearview mirrors designed to maximize aerodynamic efficiency
Taillamps are shaped for aero performance without design penalty
Four underbody panels – more commonly found on premium-priced cars – cover approximately 50 percent of the lower portion of the vehicle and provide an aerodynamically clean flow path under the vehicle
Standard 17-inch wheels and low-rolling-resistance tires engineered to improve fuel economy.

The BMW i3 Concept is an uncompromisingly sustainable vehicle designed for urban areas. Driven purely by electric power and purpose-built to meet the demands of sustainable and emission-free mobility, it embodies an intelligent form of urban transportation and commuting.
BMW I3 Concept 2012
The BMW i3 Concept is an uncompromisingly sustainable vehicle designed for urban areas. Driven purely by electric power and purpose-built to meet the demands of sustainable and emission-free mobility, it embodies an intelligent form of urban transportation and commuting.
"This automotive concept uses a new architecture which showcases all of its new possibilities and potential. It is the world's first premium electric vehicle." - Andreas Feist, Head of vehicle project BMW i3.
The BMW i3 is a well-resolved all-round concept, with every detail conceived and optimised to fulfil its eventual purpose. Central to its design is the innovative LifeDrive architecture, the key to the BMW i3 Concept's appeal as a light, safe and spacious car. Innovative use of materials and intelligent lightweight design not only enable the i3 Concept to travel long distances on a single charge and provide superb safety in the event of a collision, they also help give the car its excellent driving dynamics. The secure arrangement of the battery in the Drive module gives the vehicle a very low centre of gravity and optimum weight distribution. The electric motor over the rear axle - which generates output of 125 kW/170 hp and impressive torque of 250 Nm (184 lb-ft) from a standstill - and a small turning circle combine to deliver pleasingly crisp driving characteristics and give the driver a very immediate experience of the BMW i3 Concept's lightweight design. The BMW i3 Concept accelerates from 0 to 60 km/h (37 mph) in under four seconds and from rest to 100 km/h (62 mph) in less than eight seconds. The extremely direct sensation at the wheel is expressed in outstanding agility at low speeds and during turning manoeuvres, and makes parking in tricky situations that much easier.
The Life module conjures up a feeling of space inside the car more generous than even the latest conversion vehicles can offer. Select materials lend the open and airy cabin a lounge-like character. The use of renewable raw materials is another defining characteristic of the interior, offering passengers a further means of "experiencing" the sustainability of the vehicle. Elements of the instrument panel and door panelling are visibly made from natural fibres, while the naturally tanned leather of the seats creates a lounge-style ambience. Together, these materials provide an appealing contrast to the clear, "floating" forms of the instrument panel and door elements, and lend the interior a strikingly modern feel. With the drive components located in the Drive module, there is no centre tunnel running through the passenger compartment. This allows the two front and two rear seats to be connected with each other by a continuous seat surface, which allows for ease of entry and exit via the front passenger side of the car and means you can park up close to walls, for example. With four seats, wide-opening opposing "coach" doors, boot capacity of around 200 litres and an additional functional compartment in the front, the BMW i3 Concept is neatly equipped for the demands of everyday use.
However, the electric motor developed by BMW and the optimised lightweight design of the LifeDrive architecture cannot take all the credit for imbuing the car with such efficiency and enabling it to travel such long distances on each charge. Indeed, the ability of the car to recoup energy while on the move and special range-extending functions, such as ECO PRO mode, also add miles to the clock. With ECO PRO mode activated, all the vehicle functions operate with maximum efficiency. For example, the accelerator mapping is tweaked to limit the output summoned when the driver flexes his right foot, and the climate control functions also use as little energy as possible. Added to which, sophisticated aerodynamics and slim, low rolling resistance wheels minimise resistance to the car's forward progress and maximise its range.
Innovative connectivity functions create a seamless connection between the BMW i3 Concept and its customers' lives outside the car. Remote functions accessible via a smartphone enable owners to find their vehicles, flag up nearby charging stations, allow battery charging and preconditioning at the touch of a button and supply information on the current status of the vehicle. Meanwhile, intelligent assistance systems ease the stress on drivers in monotonous city driving situations and allow them to arrive at their destination more safely and in a more relaxed state of mind.

Subtle enhancements to the cabin are now available for the 2012 XJ range to allow greater personalisation and flexibility of use. A new Rear Comfort Pack offers seats that now feature electric adjustment of the backrest recline angle, four-way lumbar support and a massage function. Increased comfort is also provided by new winged headrests, footrests and the ability for the front passenger seat to be stowed away forwards when unoccupied to increase legroom even further.
On the long-wheelbase Portfolio derivative a new 'Executive Pack' transforms the rear of the XJ into a high-speed mobile office space with the provision of fold-down laptop trays and an electric rear sunblind for increased privacy. The package also includes upgraded carpeting, combination wood and leather steering wheel, gloss wood veneer choices and chrome mirror housings.
Jaguar has always listened closely to customer feedback and in the case of the XJ, this has led to a new interior colour combination. Available with the Premium Luxury and Portfolio trim levels the Jet/Ivory option features ivory seating with contrast jet stitching, piping and upper surfaces while the headlining is available in either colour, according to customer preference.
All XJ variants are now available with an Illumination Package derived from that offered as standard on the Supersport model. This comprises illuminated treadplates, boot latch and front and rear air vents.
"An XJ should be the ultimate in comfort, design and refinement. The bespoke interior changes we have incorporated for the 2012 model make it an even more special car to drive or be driven in."

BMW i8 Concept 2011
The BMW i8 Concept has very impressive performance and fuel economy figures. The i8 Concept accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in under five seconds and has fuel consumption of under three litres per 100 kilometres (approx. 94 mpg). The BMW i8 Concept can travel up to 35 kilometres (approx. 20 miles) on electric power alone with its large lithium-ion battery.

BMW i8 Concept 2011
The BMW i8 Concept and the fascinating approach that underpins it embody the vision of a sustainable contemporary sports car brought to life. Its innovative plug-in hybrid concept combines the modified electric drive system from the BMW i3 Concept - fitted over its front axle - with a high-performance three-cylinder combustion engine producing 164 kW (220 hp)/300 Nm (221 lb-ft) at the rear. The electric motor in the BMW i8 Concept is a full-capability unit which can also power the car on its own, if required. However, working in tandem allows the two drive systems to display their respective talents to the full, delivering the performance of a sports car but the fuel consumption of a small car.
Acceleration of 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in under five seconds combined with fuel consumption in the European cycle of under three litres per 100 kilometres (approx. 94 mpg imp) and average customer fuel consumption of between five and seven litres per 100 kilometres (40.4 - 56.5 mpg imp) - even when driven hard - are figures currently beyond the capability of any vehicle powered by a combustion engine of comparable performance. Thanks to its large lithium-ion battery, which can be charged from a domestic power supply, the BMW i8 Concept can travel up to 35 kilometres (approx. 20 miles) on electric power alone. A large proportion of short everyday journeys can therefore be completed with zero emissions. The car's electric-only mode allows it to enter emissions-capped central areas of cities with access restrictions in place for petrol or diesel-powered vehicles. The i8 Concept's efficiency rating is further enhanced by its ability to generate energy at both axles. The electric motor at the front axle recoups maximum energy every time the driver brakes, while a high-voltage alternator hooked up to the combustion engine charges the battery, if required. Added to which, the 2+2-seater offers enough space for four people, giving it a high level of everyday practicality.
The emotional design of the BMW i8 Concept ensures its qualities are clear for all to see. Its dynamic proportions give the BMW i8 Concept the appearance of surging forward before it even turns a wheel and lend visual form to its extraordinary performance. The sophisticated concept behind the upward-swivelling doors fixed to the A-pillars underlines the car's sporting capability and opens up access to the front and rear seats at the same time.
A series of air inlets allow the air to flow through and around the vehicle to optimum effect, ensuring extremely low drag. They also add visual emphasis to these advanced aerodynamics. Airflow plays an extremely important role at the rear of the vehicle as well. Intakes behind the passenger cell and at the rear provide a cooling flow of air through the engine compartment, while outlets in the rear diffuser and the flow of air around the rear wheels ensure the car is extremely efficient in terms of lift and downforce at both axles.
The LifeDrive architecture of the BMW i8 Concept has been carefully adapted to enhance the vehicle's sports car character, and therefore to deliver unbeatable performance and excellent driving dynamics. The motor in the front axle module and combustion engine at the rear are connected by an "energy tunnel", which houses the high-voltage battery. This gives the car a low centre of gravity - and the dynamic benefits that come with it. The positioning of the electric motor and engine over their respective axles and the space-saving and well-balanced packaging of all components result in an optimum 50/50 weight distribution.
The weight of every component inside the BMW i8 Concept has been minimised down to the very last detail, allowing the extra weight of the electric drive system and battery to be cancelled out. The BMW i8 Concept therefore presents the ideal environment in which to sample this very special drive concept on the road. The passengers sit - in typical sports car style - in an extremely low and enclosed position inside the CFRP-constructed Life module (mounted above the Drive module).
The sporting character of the BMW i8 Concept continues into the interior. Boasting a driver-focused environment unmatched by any BMW Group vehicle before it, the BMW i8 Concept immerses the driver fully in the unique driving experience. The purpose-built driver's position is geared squarely towards the person at the wheel and gives optimum access to all information and controls. The three-dimensional displays are crystal clear and flash up the relevant information for the driving situation at hand. The interior as a whole is defined by the functionality of a classical BMW sports car and majors on lightness and ease of use. The BMW i8 Concept is the sports car for a new generation - pure, emotional and sustainable.

XF Powertrain and Dynamics
It also continues the Jaguar tradition of innovation by offering a combination of technologies that anticipates automotive trends.
New four-cylinder diesel
Key among the enhancements to XF is the introduction of the 2.2-litre AJ-i4D turbodiesel engine. The unit features low-friction pistons and a water-cooled turbocharger to increase efficiency plus active engine mounts and modifications to the sump and block to reduce NVH levels. The result is not only Jaguar's most fuel-efficient engine ever, but one which offers levels of refinement on a par with the previously-fitted 2.7-litre V6 diesel and all the performance expected of a Jaguar sports saloon. Further refinement is assured on all models by the use of additional acoustic shielding and the use of computational fluid dynamics to smooth exterior airflow.
Power output is 190PS with an impressive torque figure of 450Nm to provide the muscular performance expected of a Jaguar. Reaching 60mph in 8.0 seconds, the car will go on to achieve a top speed of 140mph. Nevertheless the unit still manages 52.3mpg on the EU combined cycle - making it the most economical Jaguar ever - and emits just 149g/km of CO2and is Euro Stage V compliant.
New 8-speed automatic
The engine is perfectly complemented by the all-new 8-speed ZF automatic gearbox. Specifically adapted by our engineers for its first-time application in a Jaguar, the transmission offers a host of benefits including both improved acceleration and economy. Gearchanges are completed in just 200 milliseconds - four times faster than the average human resting heartbeat - while driver control is enhanced by the ability to perform multiple downshifts using the paddleshift technology. The use of lightweight materials ensures the overall weight remains the same as the previous six-speed transmission, while improved pump design and gear control elements increase efficiency. Standard on all XF diesel models, it reduces the CO2emissions of the 3.0-litre V6 to 169g/km and improves fuel consumption to 44.8mpg.
Intelligent Stop/Start
Also making its debut with the 2.2-litre diesel engine is Jaguar's new Intelligent Stop/Start system, the first time this technology has been seen in a premium diesel saloon. This automatically shuts down the engine in just 300 milliseconds when the car comes to rest, in order to improve fuel economy and CO2emissions by between five and seven percent.
No driver intervention is necessary, with the engine management software analysing a host of complex factors in order to decide when the engine can safely be stopped. A Tandem Solenoid Starter with a dedicated secondary battery instantly restarts the engine as soon as the driver's foot leaves the brake pedal, ensuring it is running optimally by the time the accelerator is pressed. In order to facilitate this process, the gearbox features Hydraulic Impulse Storage, which supplies oil pressure to actuate the shift elements.
For the first time, all diesel variants are also available with Jaguar's Adaptive Dynamics system, allowing the enthusiastic driver to enjoy the car's outstanding chassis control and discover the XF's sporting soul.
XF Interior
Whether experienced from the driver or passenger seat, the cabin of the XF is a uniquely welcoming and stylish place in which to spend time, using high-end materials in a truly contemporary manner.
Continuing to feature such dramatic 'surprise and delight' elements as the JaguarDrive Selector that rises from the centre console and air vents that rotate to their open position when the starter button is pressed, the XF interior has also received a comprehensive update.
New seats and instruments
Revised front and rear seats incorporate a 'hoop' feature on both squab and backrest that improves not only their appearance but also the support it offers by increasing the seat's profile. New hide colour combinations, veneers and headlining choices increase the personalisation options available to buyers. All models benefit from a revision to the colour scheme on the centre console, fascia and steering wheel where the 'Tungsten' finish is replaced by a more contemporary 'Aurora' theme.
The XF incorporates a formidable amount of technology but in true Jaguar fashion it is integrated seamlessly into the function of the car and controlled through a central seven-inch Touch-screen with a new polarising filter for better contrast viewing.
In order to reduce driver workload, additional switches have been added below the Touch-screen to instantly switch between different functions while new graphics are based on those in Jaguar's flagship XJ. The main driver instrument cluster is now a full-colour TFT unit for greater resolution and clarity.
Cutting-edge technology
Three new audio systems are offered on the XF, all of which represent a significant upgrade on those previously available. Heading this up is a 1200W, 17-speaker premium set-up, from British audio experts Bowers & Wilkins, which offers concert hall-like sound reproduction.
All audio systems can be specified with a hard-drive based satellite navigation system that incorporates a 'virtual' CD multichanger allowing the owner to 'rip' 10 CDs at a time into the car's memory storage and play them as if they were a physical music medium. The system also now offers a number of different options for connecting MP3 players; two USB ports, one of which is iPod specific and Bluetooth connectivity that allows music to be streamed from a smartphone.
The majority of the car's functions can also be controlled from the driver's seat by Jaguar's Interactive Voice functionality, which provides an intuitive interface for safe, hands-free operation.

Hungarian F1 Grand Prix 2011: Race Report - Jenson achieves amazing win (VMM)
JENSON BUTTON
- MP4-26A-04
- Started: 3rd
- Finished: 1st
- Fastest lap: 1m23.937s (+0.522s, 6th)
- Pitstops: Three: laps 11, 27 and 42 (Int-Op-Op-Pr)
- 2011 points: 134 (5th)
“I want to say a big, big thank you to the team today. The car worked a treat in all conditions, and we made all the right strategy calls.
“We deserved this win and it felt great to stand alongside my race engineer Dave (Robson) on the occasion of his first appearance on the podium.
“The race was a brilliantly eventful one. I had a good battle with Lewis when we were running one-two. We were both driving on the limit and the gap ebbed and flowed, depending on the traffic.
“It was good fun and I was sorry that we weren’t standing up there on the podium together at the end of it all. This was the perfect way to celebrate my 200th Grand Prix, and the team can enter the summer break with a spring in its step.
“We know we have a good car, so let’s enjoy our holidays and come back even stronger at Spa-Francorchamps.
“I’m excited about that race already.”
LEWIS HAMILTON
- MP4-26A-03
- Started: 2nd
- Finished: 4th
- Fastest lap: 1m23.661s (+0.246s, 2nd)
- Pitstops: Five: laps 12, 26, 40, 52 and 54 (Int-Op-Op-Op-Int-Pr)
- 2011 points: 146 (3rd)
“Big congratulations to Jenson. He pushed me hard and he deserved to win the race. I felt sorry for the team that we didn’t get a one-two, but at least one of us got the victory.
“The car felt very good to drive today. I think the cooler conditions helped us, but the team has done a fantastic job to get us where we are. We’ve now won two races in the space of a week, which is a great way to enter the summer break.
“I’m disappointed in myself for spinning. I had to do a doughnut to get myself facing the right way and that forced Paul (di Resta) onto the grass, which is why I got the drive-through penalty.
“I’ve apologised to Paul and I’ll put the penalty behind me and move on to the next race.”
MARTIN WHITMARSH
Team Principal, Vodafone McLaren Mercedes
“What a way for Jenson to celebrate his 200th Grand Prix! Just brilliant! Fantastic! Those were very, very difficult conditions this afternoon, and it was easy to get it wrong, but Jenson drove a great race.
“His measured yet combative drive was a testament to how naturally smooth and smart he is on the racetrack, and he really deserved this win.
“Lewis was in the pits six times this afternoon and he got his drive-through penalty for putting Paul on the grass. He’ll be disappointed because he’d like to have been standing on the top step of the podium alongside Jenson, but he accepted his penalty well. He kept his cool and overtook another couple of cars as a result.
“His resulting fourth place gave him - and us - 12 valuable world championship points. This was McLaren’s 10th win in Hungary - a record - and it comes on the back of Lewis’s win in Germany last weekend.
“We’ve won three of the past five Grands Prix, and have scored 119 world championship points over the same period. The team can now take a well-deserved break before attacking the second half of the season.”
