All Star

Somebody once told me the world is gonna roll me.
I ain't the sharpest tool in the shed.
She was looking kind of dumb with her finger and her thumb
In the shape of an "L" on her forehead…

I’m sitting at the airport and as is so becoming the norm, I’ve been extremely stupid. Again. I got to the airport in plenty of time. I checked in. I decided because it was going to be an all day trip I’d grab a sandwich. After all, I had plenty of time. I sit, watch people, and then meander to the gate. A flight is leaving at 12:20. My flight. And I’m not on it. I look at my ticket. The flight was scheduled to land at the first stop at 2:30. Somehow that’s what my muddled brain interpreted as takeoff.

The man at the gate is very nice to me. I can see the pity in his eyes. Poor stupid woman he is no doubt thinking. Wonder how she’s made it this far? He can get me out but there’s a chance I won’t make the connecting flight. That would mean I’d be stuck until tomorrow. And guess where my suitcase is? As my sweet friend Brenda says, Que Sera, Sera. At this point, that’s all that’s left.
While I sit, I think back on all of the outright stupid things I do and say on a regular basis. They are quite unintentional. Who would do these kinds of things on purpose??? In most cases nobody COULD do these things on purpose. Just the other day I locked the keys in the trunk, with my suitcase. It was sheer luck I had forgotten to lock the door the day before and was able to get in and find the trunk open button in a strange car. Luckily I didn’t miss that flight.

I thought about making a list of the many stupid things I’ve done. You know, for your entertainment. But it would be too long. And I could make a lot more blog posts instead of just one! Now some of the stupid things I do are just ordinary stupid things, like losing my car in the parking lot. A lot of people do that. I see people all the time playing like they are just clicking their clicker when actually they have no clue where they parked. It happens to both men and women. No gender is spared!

There was this time I lost the parking lot though. That probably doesn’t happen to very many people. It was downtown Austin. I was there for a meeting. First, let me mention that I am extremely directionally challenged. I can’t help it. I turn the wrong way at the mall unless I look to see which direction the store I originally came in is located. I have spent countless hours taking scenic routes and discovering things that I will never see again because I won’t be able to find them. The Garmin is a wonderful invention when it’s correct!

That day I found the building, parked and went inside. When I came out of the building it was through a different door. My sensible (and wonderful!) friend Miya walked out with me. She said, is your car over there? As I glanced around nothing was looking familiar. No bells were ringing. Hmmmm…I don’t know I tell her. But Miya, like I said, is sensible. And smart. She says, no worries. We’ll find it. She knows where she parked so we get in her car and we start to cruise the parking garage.

Let me say too, that in some ways I’m a very detailed oriented person. In other ways, not so much. Miya asked, what kind of car is it? Hmmmm…well, that might be another problem. I don’t know. Before you slap your head in disbelief, let me tell you I rent many cars. My job includes a lot of travel. So I don’t always remember. She said, no problem. What color? It might be white I say. Since Miya likes me she is extremely patient. Or maybe because she knows me she’s extremely tolerant! So, to make a long story short, we cruise another parking garage, and after many vague answers eventually find my car. Thank you Miya!

I worry sometimes though. If I’m this bad already how bad will I get? Have I lost some essential brain cells or do I just not pay attention? Or could it be a combination of the two? I remember once asking something incredibly stupid to my friend, incredibly stupid in his mind anyway. He answered then asked me if I dyed my hair. I first thought he was exceedingly rude, as he oftentimes is. Eventually I realized he was asking me if I was really a blonde under this dark hair. I assure you I am not. But it’s really possible, considering some of the things I come up with, that my hair was an entirely different color in a previous life! At least I could use that as an excuse!

Sidenote: No offense intended at all towards blondes.
As is routinely seen all hair colors demonstrate equal degrees of ignorance at times!

Well the years start coming and they don't stop coming.
Fed to the rules and I hit the ground running.
Didn't make sense not to live for fun,
Your brain gets smart but your head gets dumb.

It’s day 302 of my knitayear. It’s January 27 and fly to South Carolina tomorrow. I also have a doctor’s appointment and though I dearly love him I don’t like to go see him. I don’t do well with needles and such. I’m a little anxious, worrying about blood tests and all and trying to remember details for the trip. I don’t feel great either. On a good note I did get to see the littles for a bit. E and I went to Wmart and he got to pick out anything he wanted for a belated birthday present. It was fun. Sweet boy was worried about getting everyone else a prize as well. I chose a novelty yarn with bits of ribbon hanging from it. Day 303, January 28, and first off the bat I lock the keys in the trunk with the suitcase. I’m hoping it’s not an omen but it will turn out it is. But I find the way into the car and make the flight on time and all is well. I’m feeling kind of jinxed already. I choose gray and teal thick and thin wool. It’s day 304, January 29. The flight was long but uneventful. It was dark when I got to Charleston so I just called room service. I didn’t look for any of the others so I head down to meet them today. I met a couple of them before. It’s a long day but there’s some good information. Since this will be part of my job now I’m getting enthused. But you can’t sit for hours without some mind wandering. I look to see if there are any yarn shops close. My luck has changed! There’s one within walking distance! I skip lunch and head over and score. More on that later! I’m feeling lucky and choose bright green and blue cotton. Day 305, January 30, and it’s the last day. I did meet some lovely people. One special lady is a fellow knitter! All but two of us leave today. I’m still feeling sick so we go eat and I go to bed. Little do I know it’s going to be all downhill from here! I choose an ugly yarn because of how I’m feeling. It’s fuzzy and orange and yellow and purple. Day 306 is January 31. I get to sleep in as I have a late shuttle. I wake up and have Theraflu for breakfast. Hopefully it will help get me through the day til I can get home. Head to the airport and that’s when I make my stupidest mistake of the month. I choose thick black yarn that has bright spots of color. The color means there’s always hope. I think. I guess I’ll continue to live by the 50-50-90 rule. Anytime I have a 50-50 chance of getting something right, there’s a 90% probability I’ll get it wrong. Watch out for me. I need it!

Not for long, let us review a car bearing the Lions are coming from Europe. In terms of design, no doubt, Peugeot 3008 does contain elements that suggest stylish Peugeot 3008 is the birth of Europe. This car presents different shades when seen from front, side and rear.

Grille design that opened wide, like a lion ready to pounce on its prey. But it only serves to smooth the wind into the machine cabin. Enhanced grille design with black accents. From the front, such as not using a car bumper. But still solid.

If viewed from the side, impressed Peugeot 3008 round. Cars like holding something in her ass. While from behind, you're not going to think that 3008 is the crossover. But again it was only European style.

Entered the passenger cabin, eyes wide to the front. Areas to watch out for any black spots well. Opinion that since the adoption of wide-open windshield. You like standing in front of the inside of a city bus.

Meanwhile, there is a divider in the middle or called console. It turned out that in addition to the slick design also functioned as a cool box. Just open the lid, you can keep the beverage to remain fresh.

Interior Peugeot 3008 were myriad. Just look, from the CD, Audio Aux ins and other compartments to pamper users. Entertainment features that you can operate via a lever located behind the steering wheel to the right.

In addition there are cruise control located on the left side of the wheel. From behind the wheel, you can also adjust the speedometer lights. And rear passengers do not have to worry about overheating.

Peugeot has set an additional blower is placed in the center console. Baggage can be arranged as congenital. Could be 50 liters, 100 liters to 150 liters.

Even twisted the ignition key to On. Engine capacity of 1598 cc 16 Valve VVT EP6CDT turbocharger capable of producing power 156PS at 5800 rpm and torque of 20nm at 1400 rpm sounds fine.

In the center console, you can customize the i-drive option. There are D, F with the shift stick shift forward and back ("+" and "-") with 6 speed.

And S for you who want to experience a more responsive engine. There is also a snow mode choice. To run, you simply step on the brake and put the lever in D. After that gas alone without the need to release the hand brake. Because of a computer to read if the machine requires energy to the road. Easy is not it?

The engine is very responsive unlike crossover machine classmates from Japan. When asked to racing, Peugeot quite steady. Up to speed 170 km / h, Peugeot 3008 remain on track.

For safety features, Peugeot applied ABS, EBD, EBA, ESP and 6 airbags in the passenger cabin.

Character suspension is a little hard but the car still does not remove the strange symptoms. However, unfortunately when asked to maneuver to the left and right of the car is a little heavy.

And one of the highlights of Peugeot 3008, when looking at the indicator panel gasoline, Peugeot average drink 1 liter of petrol for a distance of 8.8 kilometers.

2011 Mazda 2

2011 Mazda 2 Reviews
Now you can add the 2011 Mazda 2 to that list of price-conscious hatchbacks. On the plus side, the Mazda 2 is quite sporty to drive, and indeed this is one area where Mazda is quite proud of its new entry-level car. The list of standard and available features for the Mazda is quite short, too.

The 2011 Mazda 2 is a five-passenger, four-door subcompact hatchback that is available in two trim levels -- Sport and Touring. The Sport comes standard with 15-inch steel wheels with wheel covers, air-conditioning, full power accessories, a tilt steering wheel and a four-speaker CD/MP3 audio system with an auxiliary input jack.

The EPA estimates fuel economy at 28 mpg city/35 mpg highway for the manual transmission and 27/33 mpg for the automatic.
Standard safety features for the 2011 Mazda 2 include antilock brakes (discs in front/drums in rear), front-seat side airbags, side curtain airbags and stability and traction control.

The 2011 Mazda 2's interior is comparable to other hatchbacks in this economical price range. With those rear seats in place, cargo capacity is 13.3 cubic feet, which is small for a hatchback.
Among the most hotly anticipated (at least among Car and Driver staffers) is the 2011 Mazda 2, Mazda’s first America-bound B-segment vehicle since the 323 and arguably the best such car Mazda has ever built.

Unavailable, for example, even on Touring models, are a telescoping steering wheel, a sunroof, integrated navigation (a portable Garmin system will be available from dealers), a USB port, and a hands-free Bluetooth system. Ditto the front-disc, rear-drum brakes. Meanwhile, fuel economy is good if not worldbeating, at 29 mpg in the city and 35 mpg on the highway for the five-speed manual and 27/33 for the four-speed automatic.
The Mazda2 press junket was shaping up to be one of those trips. Old-tech 4-speed automatic.

Mazda's stylists applied scaled-down versions of their latest styling cues -- the big smiling grille (link goes to photo), the strong front fender line, the trapezoidal rear window -- and while those same details stick out like sore thumbs on the bigger Mazda3, they somehow manage to blend right in on the little Mazda2.

At the front of the room, the Mazda staffers were talking about the virtues of the new Mazda2: refinement, light weight, price.
I picked a bright-red "Mazda2" Touring with a manual transmission and settled in. I certainly didn't feel like I was sitting in Mazda's cheapest car.

As much as I liked the Mazda2, my heart belongs to the Ford Fiesta. It's great to drive and its high-tech twin-clutch automatic delivers better fuel economy than the Mazda2, plus it offers features that the Mazda doesn't such as leather seats and iPod integration. Still, the Fiesta lacks the Mazda's quiet engine and smooth ride -- not to mention its proven Japanese build quality.
The car that poses the biggest challenge to the Mazda2 might well be the Nissan Versa, which has a roomy, well-trimmed cabin and a very attractive price tag but lacks the Mazda's good looks. Considering what the competition offers, I think the Mazda's mix of attributes will serve it well.

So What Are Hydraulic Jacks And How Do They Work?

Hydraulic jacks use a liquid to push against the piston to lift just about anything with virtually no effort. The process is derived from Pascal's Principle which state that the pressure is in a given enclosed container is the same in all of its points. Therefore, if you have two individual cylinders that are connected, if force is applied to the smaller cylinder it is going to have the same pressure as the larger cylinder has.

The trick comes from the larger cylinder, because it has more area, which means it will result in greater force. Simply said, the more area there is the more force it will result in. The greater the difference in size between the two cylinders, the greater the increase in the force will be. Also the bigger difference they have in size, the more you will get an increase in resulting force. A hydraulic jack basically works on this system, resulting in a simpler and easier way to move and lift heavy objects.

The hydraulic jacks consist of 6 individual parts that make up the overall system. These parts are the check valve, reservoir, main cylinder, pump, piston, and lastly the release. The job of the reservoir is to contain the hydraulic fluid. On the down stroke the pump draws the said fluid up and is pushed by the pressure into the check valve. This allows the fluid to go into the main cylinder. As the cylinder fills up the piston is pushed up. Then, when the time to release the pressure comes, allowing the piston to come back down in its original position, the valve must open. Once the valve opens the fluid goes back to it original place, the reservoir.

The hydraulic jack for vehicles is one of the most common ways that the hydraulic jacks are put to use. This system makes the overall process much faster and easier than any of the traditional jacks used. If you plan on using the hydraulic jack, or any other jack for that matter, ensure that you use all precaution. The car must be parked if you have an automatic transmission. If you have a stick shift put the car in first or in reverse to make sure that you are safe.

Different cars have different jack points, so make sure to first locate yours. There should be a jack point sometime near or around the wheel you require to replace. It is important that you place the jack on a piece of plywood or other secure surface to ensure stability. Never place the jack on a soft surface, for example if you are changing the tire on a lawn or on the side of the road in the soft area as the jack will sink as it tries to lift the car. Using precaution when changing your tires is essential, this is whether you are using standard jacks or hydraulic jacks.

Car Covers Are For Everyone

Nature, it all it's wonder and glory, is not so kind when it comes to the treatment it gives to cars. Nature's elements can be quite harsh and detrimental to the car's well being. The various weather conditions can, and will have diverse effects on cars.

Rain contains high levels of acid that literally eat away at the car's paintwork. What is left, is a patchy, peeling paint car that looks like it has been through the wars. If that is not bad enough, the rain leaves awful watermarks all over the exterior of the car, and over time, causes the car to rust and rot.

Snow has more or less the same effects as rain does, only worse. When it snows, the car, and all it's parts, will freeze over. This includes the car's brakes. The problem with this is that when the brakes are frozen they do not work adequately enough and cause erratic driving that could result in a fatal accident, G-d forbid.

Wind has it's problems too. The seemingly innocent wind actually drags all sorts of 'goodies' along with it. Anything that has been left lying in the street gets swept up in the wind storm and made to fly through the air. In doing so, bits of rubble, including sticks and stones, will scratch and dent the car, leaving it looking a real spectacle.

The sun is extremely powerful. Due to global warming, the ozone layer has thinned, and therefore the sun's ultra violet rays are not being filtered. As a result, when the ultra violet rays beat down on the cars, they cause the finish to melt, and bleach the paintwork. The car is left looking completely washed out, and colourless; a dull metal tin!

When the car is left standing in the sun, its interior gets ruined too. The internal specs of the car get wrecked due to the car overheating. The car is also too hot and stuffy to drive, and can be very claustrophobic. Drivers can even burn their hands on the steering wheels, when the car gets overheated.

All of this, together with piles of dust, and birds droppings, do not make the outdoors a safe haven for cars. The cars are left in a bedraggled sated, with unsightly stains that will take hours to clean.

The indoors is not much better though. Although the car is not exposed to most weather conditions, it is still not shielded from dust and dirt. In fact, dust tends to pile up much faster in garages due to the storage conditions. Usually old bits of rubbish that no one wants to throw out are kept in garages, these are awfully dusty, and act as a magnet to more dust, that only instead lands up on the car.

Also garages are usually small places. People tend to have to squeeze past to get to the other end. In doing so, they are very likely to scratch or dent the car, especially if they have something like keys hanging from their belt or pocket.

In either case, a car cover would be the ideal choice to keeping a car in mint condition. All weather car covers are fully waterproof and ultra violet resistant, so that eliminates all problems caused by the sun, rain, sleet and snow. The cover will also be act as a cushioning shield for the car so that no impression will be made as and when it gets knocked about. Automatically, having a car cover, prevents the car from getting dusty too. So, all in all, the car cover is the ultimate life saver!

UK to spend over £7bn on electric cars by 2014

The British motor industry is in line for a £7bn boost from electric cars between now and 2014, according to a survey of 5,000-plus drivers by GfK Automotive.

The survey found 1.8 per cent of people would "definitely" buy an electric car by 2014, equating to more than 300,000 electric cars if extrapolated over the total car-buying population of 19.8 million households.

Using the newly released all-electric Nissan Leaf as a benchmark, the market will be worth £7.2bn by 2014, GfK Automotive says. And another 3 per cent of respondents – equating to 500,000 of all car-buyers – say they would consider going electric in the future.

Another UK survey conducted in December found that 53 per cent would consider buying an electric or hybrid vehicle as their next car. That equals 10.5 million hybrid / EV sales in the very near future.

Peugeot delivers electric car to EDF Energy

Peugeot has delivered its first fully electric car in the UK to EDF Energy’s fleet. The Peugeot Ion has a potential range of 93 miles and is eligible for the Government’s £5000 electric vehicle grant.

EDF Energy, which Peugeot claims is the UK’s largest producer of low carbon electricity, will use the car to test recharging solutions.

Eric Salomon, energy field services director at EDF, said: “We are delighted to add the first Peugeot iOn in the UK to our fleet. It fits in perfectly with our ambitions to provide low carbon solutions.”

The four-seat Ion goes on sale in the UK this month. It can be recharged from a standard domestic plug within six hours or via a quick-charger within one hour.
The car is available through a mobility offer consisting of a four year 40,000 mile contract with a monthly payment of £415 excluding VAT.

The offer includes the lease of the vehicle including battery pack, full warranty cover and full servicing and maintenance.
At the end of the four year period the deal can be renewed for a further four years at a reduced cost.

Peugeot estimates running costs of £1.72 per 93 miles.
Taking into account savings on fuel, exemption from the London Congestion Charge and some parking charges, Peugeot claims a potential annual saving of £5400 through running an electric car.

Skoda OCtavia

Skoda will be launching a new Octavia in January 2009 with an extensive exterior and interior facelift, bringing the hugely successful model up to date with the brand’s current range.

Prices of the new, improved Octavia represent an average increase of £473 for the Octavia Hatch and £478 for the Octavia Estate over the outgoing model.

The new Octavia has undergone a series of significant design changes which include dynamic, sweeping headlights and complimentary front fog lights, new foldable door mirrors and body colored bumpers and side moldings.

Improvements go well beyond a traditional facelift with the new Octavia benefiting from a partially re-designed interior which features a range of new steering wheels, new stereo systems and new upholstery.

The new Octavia also takes the S, SE and Elegance trim naming system from the New Superb and comes with new alloy wheels and two new paint colors – Arctic Green Metallic and Aqua Blue Metallic.

A brand new 1.4 TSI 122bhp engine will replace the current 1.6 FSI 115bhp engine and the 2.0 FSI 200bhp engine with DSG transmission will be introduced on the Octavia vRS.

Warren Richards, Product Marketing Manager at Skoda, said: “The new Octavia is a thoroughly contemporary car which sits perfectly within our current range. As well as modernised looks, it features a whole host of new features that will appeal to today’s car buyers.”

FPV Ute Car Reviews And News Ud Upates

Ford's supercharged V8 ute is a beast… But one that needs taming
Ford Performance Vehicles (FPV) today launched an exciting new model Series aimed at broadening its appeal to Australia's automotive enthusiasts.
Named in tribute to a fondly-remembered Ford from the late '60s, the new GS sedan and GS Ute are unique limited-edition models offering buyers entry to the FPV family at a very competitive price point.

FPV's GS sedan and Ute are individually-speced to provide a combination of GT-based 302kW V8 engine performance, FPV chassis enhancements, bespoke GS graphics and FPV driver comfort features.

Available in limited numbers, the new FPV GS Series models hark back to the original Falcon GS of 30 years ago, introduced with the XW-model of 1969 and now the second most collectible Ford Falcon behind the GT.
"GS is another iconic badge in Ford's family history in this country," FPV General Manager Rod Barrett said.

"Our aim was to develop a model that provides the performance, prestige and individuality that is a signature of the FPV brand, with its own identifiable model personality, and all at a great price.
"We've achieved all of that and expect the new GS Series models will find their own place in Australian performance motoring folklore."

Developed specifically for the GS Series, the recalibrated FPV 5.4 litre V8 GT engine from the FG-model now produces 302kW of power and 551Nm of torque, driving through a standard six-speed manual transmission.

FPV's engineers have given the GS Series engine the twin throttle bodies and intake system of the GT engine, the GT headers and dual exhaust and a recalibrated ECU, all fine-tuned in an engine development program specific to the GS Series.
"We aimed to provide the GS Series owner with a GT driving experience with this engine … at 302kW it's the perfect entry to our range, which steps up to the turbocharged F6 at 310kW and the full GT-spec V8 at 315kW," Rod Barrett said.

Every FPV GS Series also comes standard with unique GS striping graphics, charcoal cloth interior, FPV GT instrumentation, gear knob, starter button and badging, premium sound system with iPod® and Bluetooth® integration, and dual zone climate control.
There's also '302' graphics on the GS sedan's rear spoiler.

The GS sedan also features 19in Graphite rims and a choice of six exterior colour/stripe combinations, while the GS Ute features 19in Alpine Silver rims, FPV soft tonneau and a choice of three exterior colour/stripe combinations.
Like its namesake from three decades ago, the new FPV GS Series offers a long list of options that include a FPV-spec 4-pot Brembo brake upgrade, a six-speed auto transmission recalibrated specifically for the GS' 302kW engine, leather seats and sat-nav, and, on the Ute only, a hard tonneau with spoiler.

"We have also given the major design elements of the original GS logo a modern interpretation, which adds to the distinctive styling of the GS sedan and Ute," Rod Barrett said.
Production of the GS Series is limited to 250 sedans and 75 Utes.

FALCON GS HISTORY
First introduced just over 30 years ago, the Falcon GS was an option pack offered as an 'affordable' and lower-spec alternative to the Falcon GT.
Launched in July 1969 with the then-new XW Falcon range, the GS was an option pack available to dress up the base Falcon and higher-spec Futura models. It continued in the subsequent XY and XA models.
In its initial XW-model guise, the GS option pack added 'rally stripes' to the flanks of the bold new bodywork, chrome-finish full wheel covers, GT-spec instrumentation and three-spoke 'rim blow' sports steering wheel. Later GS packs included other options on the XY and XA models.

Many GS owners along the way also added further options to 'personalise' their cars like bucket seats, centre console, disc brakes, wider tyres, power steering and even the 302 ci Windsor V8.
Today, the GS is fondly remembered by enthusiasts for its mix of sporty good looks and luxury appointments, its rarity and its value as an alternative to the Falcon GT.

New for 2011 the engines receive horsepower increases, the 3.2 liter engine to 240-hp, and the turbocharged 3.0 liter to 300-hp. The front-wheel drive S80 is available with a 240-hp 3.2-liter inline six-cylinder engine or a 230-hp 3.2-liter PZEV engine. Safety features include ABS, traction control, stability control, and six airbags.

The 2011 Volvo S80 is an Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) “Top Safety Pick,” which means it boasts excellent crash test scores and standard safety features. If you value your budget and your safety above plush interiors and back-road performance, most car reviewers say that the S80 should work for you.

The 2011 Infiniti M is also an IIHS “Top Safety Pick,” which should reassure buyers looking for a safe large luxury car--For 2011, Volvo has updated the S80’s engine lineup.

The exterior design is traditional Volvo. Fuel Economy is fine. This car is 90% Mercedes at 80% of the price. I recommend this car to anyone looking for understated luxury and high quality.

Volvo S60 R-Design

Introducing the all-new S60 R-Design — designed with true sports-car feel and featuring a specially developed chassis to ensure that the driving experience matches the car’s appearance.
With R-Design it becomes even sharper. They’re the natural choice for true connoisseurs,” said Paul Welander, Senior Vice President Product Development at Volvo Cars.

Sporty, sportier, sportiest — in order to keep the superlatives in check Volvo Cars has taken an holistic view of the all-new S60 R-Design, with the design and chassis being developed in parallel into a single cohesive offer.

Distinctive twin exhaust tailpipes and unique five-spoke 18-inch Diamond cut wheels emphasize the sporty overall appeal.
The Volvo S60 saloon has been winning Volvo praise thanks to its good looks, comfort and enjoyable handling. Now Volvo has added its R-Design package to the range, and we’ve tested it.
The chassis has been comprehensively honed to improve the precision of each wheel’s movements--Inside there’s a three-spoke steering wheel, blue instrument dials, sports gear knob and bucket seats with increased side support to further hold occupants in place.

It’s not as involving as the lively rear-wheel drive BMW 3 Series coupe, but on a par with the front or four-wheel drive Audi A5.
Actually it's a more advanced form of an existing Volvo active safety system called City Safety, which automatically stops a Volvo if another vehicle gets in its way.
It's a radar-and camera-based system that can detect pedestrians in front of the car.

In a nutshell, it gives a warning signal if someone walks into its detection field and automatically activates the car's full braking power if the driver fails to respond in time.

Half of all pedestrian accidents occur at speeds below 25 km/h. Pedestrian Detection with Full Auto Brake can avoid a collision with a pedestrian at speeds up to 35 km/h, even if the driver is distracted and does not react in time. At higher speeds, the focus is on warning and reducing the car's speed as much as possible prior to the impact.

The all-wheel-drive technology now includes a torque-vectoring feature, which can increase torque to the outside wheel and help steer the car around a turn with more stability.

SAFETY
In addition to the Pedestrian Detection with Full Auto Brake system, the S60 offers a selection of other advanced active safety features. n Lane Departure Warning is a system that alerts the driver if the vehicle is drifting into another lane. THE DRIVE
We drove like normal and it was almost completely uneventful other than some minor warning light episodes -- people walking in front while stopped (in drive).

Even with its battery of safety systems, the S60 is probably the sportiest Volvo sedan we've driven. Overall it's a nicely balanced car with a first-class engine.

Tesla Model X SUV to be based on Lotus APX concept?

Tesla Motors CEO Elon Musk announced his company’s plans for two new electric vehicles to attendees at the Cleantech Investor Summit in Palm Springs this week. Palo Alto-based Tesla will unveil the Model X SUV, which will be “cooler” than any SUV or minivan on the market, later this year, said Musk, and in about four years will have developed a mass market sedan that be purchased for around $30,000.

Considering that Tesla has its hands full with getting production up and running of its premium Model S sedan at the former NUMMI plant in Fremont, just outside San Jose, and then add to it Tesla's history of not meeting its own launch schedules, one has to wonder how they will meet this timeline.

One option is to utilize an outside source for the basic vehicle, much as to company did with the Tesla Roadster. In this case, the Roadster is based upon the Lotus Elise sport cars, which is shipped from the UK to California for the fitting of the electrical infrastructure as well as final assembly. This has been an excellent arrangement for both parties, with Tesla gaining a nimble partner with decades of small-scale automotive production experience, and Lotus gaining an additional outlet for its cars and components.

Fittingly enough, one contender to partner with Tesla on the Model X SUV is again Lotus. Lotus displayed its APX concept SUV at the Geneva Motor Show as proof-of-concept for its Versatile Vehicle Architecture (VVA) which allows for changes to be made to the configuration of the vehicle platform quickly and at a much lower cost, thus meeting Tesla's engineering and manufacturing needs.

Further, Santa Rosa-based EV manufacturer and distributor showed a AWD EV Lotus APX Concept at the 2007 NADA Show in San Francisco. The company claimed 4.8 second 0 - 60 times for the electric APX, but nothing further came of the project and the APX is no longer on Zap's website.

It will be interesting what comes from Tesla HQ over the next few weeks or month, but if you read of confirmation that the Tesla Model X will be based upon the Lotus VVA system, you heard it here first.
